I'd do 12 unless the cakes look really dry.

IMHO...24 hours is best...12 is the minimum...the results will be clearly evident...

I always recommend 12 hours I think if you go over that you are just delaying the growth of or possibly killing mycelium by taking in more water then your cake needs thus drowning the poor little guys. Unless for some reason your cake has become extremely dry then you can go longer I usually never go over 20 though Also don't forget to pat your cake dry after you are done dunking or else you'll get a delay in pinning because the cake will have to recover from the water droplets upon it.

I think he means, taking the cake with your sterile rubber gloves and shake them a bit, so the water thats on the outside of the cake falls/drips off.

Hmmm as long as you keep everything sterile wash hands totally with anti bacterial soap you should be fine. Bob never uses gloves when dunking and Bob's never had contam from dunking in fact Bob's cake that's around here is on it's 5th flush (READ THAT yes you READ RIGHT) with no signs of contams. After you have completed your 12 hour or whatever dunking cycle you remove your cake from the water place it back on it's stand and pat it gently with a paper towel removed from a fresh package for paper towels I just use the ones from the roll in the kitchen but if your paranoid you can use fresh ones. Be gently just barely touch the paper towel to the cake enough to absorb the water if you push a little too hard here and there it's okay the worst that will happen is you will bruise the cake( a slight bluing will occur don't mistake this for contam I also noticed with EQ's it's a bit more green) then place back into terranium The best method which I suggest is this buy yourself a package of the Glad plastic looking containers their usually in the same place as your sandwhich bags they hold 4 cups of liquid and have a top that goes on great. Their really like cheap looking tupaware in any case you can get them easy. they hold one or two half pint cakes just dandy. Before every use spray with l Lysol anti-bacterial cleaner and wash the container out (their cheap enough you can dispose of and buy new ones though) fill the container with mineral water from a bottle and put your cake in there (use a half pint lid to hold your cake underwater to keep it from flipping up or going into a wierd floating position) this lid will sit right on the top of the glad lid and keep the cake submerged. Then take a ziplock and place the container inside it (if you wish spray the inside of the ziplock with lysol) and place in fridge for 12 hours then remove and do as stated above.

a friend's mycologist colleague pasteurized the verm in the microwave for 5 mins on high and let it cool over night...she also rolled some of the cakes in verm straight out of the bag and she hasn't had any contamination yet...it's really easy...just dunk the cakes for however long...wash your hands...spread a layer of verm on a clean, dry, flat surface (like a plate wiped down with alcohol)...drain the jar...birth the cake on it's side right on top of the verm...and gently roll the cake around till the verm sticks to the sides...then place the cake in the terrarium...fine verm works best...
this works very well along with the double ended casing tek
