i recently aquired a "all american" pressure cooker at a thrift
store. it was only 7 bucks!!!(half price saturdays) This was a great
deal!!! it looked great except that i saw no pressure guage. do they
make them without it? all the new ones i've seen have one. if it
needs one i know i can get one from the all american web-site. if i
need one it still will be worth it ----a over one hundred dollar
pressure cooker for only 23 dollars!!!! can u believ it.

so does it have a hole where the guage is missing or it is just not equipped with it ? you don't neccessarily need a guage if it wasn't equipped w/ one. most cookers are between 12 and 15 psi ( the ones w/ out guages ) hopefully you got a book with it, but i know it's a $7 special ! if you are doing grains cook for at least an hour. you will have to experiment a little. i hope this helps.

Yes, you definitley need the gauge. Replacement parts are readily available for even vintage A.A cookers. Do google search and you'll find plenty of vendors. Don't try to use the cooker without one.

i dont think its missing it because theres not a space unscrewed or
hole that doesn't have something in it. no book with it. the lady
there told me of when her father used one that his didn't have a
guage. mabye i dont need one. maybe i do. will it make it safer if i
get one? wiil the new gauges fit the old pressure cooker. the gauges
look standard to me. hopefully i can get a picture soon.

Are you sure it doesn`t just have a weight? When it reaches 15psi it will begin releasing steam and will chatter, the weight will relase steam and jiggle around.

it doesnt have a weight. i dont think. because it has those twist
locking clamps like the ones on the all american website. it might
have something tha indicates the pressure using steam beacause it has
something on the other side of lid(opisite the vent pipe) that looks
as though it could move up and down. anyway i really need to show u
all a picture or two hopefully i can soon.

Yes you can use it you just need to boil water and after you hear bubling you close the thing to build pressure and wait for an hour.I have no gauge too but I use this way with very little contamination like 1/10 or so.

Ok here's the deal. Before I got my big cooker I had a cheaper one with no pressure gauge. The rocker on your pressure cooker is a 15psi rocker, it will allow the pressure cooker to have only 15 psi in it, or slightly more. The pressure gauge I have learned is essentially useless, except to tell if somethings going wrong. You can buy different rockers to cook at different pressures, but you don't really need to.

And there is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand. I ask them and they answer me. When I return from the trip that I have taken with them, I tell what they have told me and what they have shown me." -- Mazatec shaman

whoa, I didn't see the pics, that's a truly oldschool cooker. They don't make em like that anymore... cause they explode. Just kidding, well not really. Anway be safe, and keep that thing well maintained. Check gaskets and valves, make sure everything is clear everytime. If you can find information on that thing online from the company that might help

there are no gaskets!~
the pressure relief valve should be replaced...from time to time. they still sell them...but they are not on the newer models...just on the sterilizers now.
and its cheaper to buy a new gauge...than to have one tested.
and they won't blow up!~
I have a really old AA 910...and it works like a charm!~
