Brown Prints, rule of thumb?
    #1795270 - 08/09/03 12:32 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

Could anyone conclude that a mushroom with a bown sporeprint is not active? I recently found some mushies that i unfortunately cannot take a pic of.

a. Habitat: S. Florida, out in the open on grass (not neccesarily by a tree)
c. 1-2 cm wdth cap, up to 9 cm stem.
d. Characteristics of the stem: white, very thin, hollow, when breaks apart is almost stringy
e. Characteristics of the cap: Light tan to brown after printing/drying, smooth, concical nipple like tip especially after drying slightly premature from sporulating specimens, acute, and less broad cap
f. Spore print color: Brown
g. Color that the mushroom bruises: None present
h. Scent of mushroom: None present

Do alot of research man,its possible, but also doubtful!I mean look,it seems like MJSHROOMER is finding a new psilocybe species everyday, lol,so it might be possible.

Brown is not a promising color for a spore print if you're thinking of putting the mushroom in your mouth.

Most of the popular active species have dark purplish-brown to black spore prints.

Brown spore prints include some mushrooms which are deadly poison. For example, Galerina marginalis.

Happy mushrooming!
