I think i am not getting enough water im my pint jars of wbs...I have read to put 2/3of a cup wbs after draining and add 1/3 cup of water. In another tek it says to just drain in a collander for 30 minutes an load em up 2/3rds full and pc them...My jars seem to be to dry after doing that so any info will be appreciated...I really dont want to go back to BRF if at all possible...

My friend soaks his WBS a minimum of 24 hours, drains well, loads into jars and PC's. Works every time.

The reason i asked this question is my jars seem way to dry after about a week and they are colinising really slowly...I prepared a quart jar of Cracked corn and it had a small amount of water in the bottom after pc`ing and its kicking pretty damn good...I think my pint jars are not getting enuff water? PS: This aint my first Rodeo..

when straining WBS, bump the strainer against the palm of your hand . it should not drip . if it is too wet, that will slow growth also .

When my foaf uses 6t's wbs tek with tyvek filters they always colonize slow or dry out. Try using poly-fil instead. This is just one guys experience, I know others will argue for tyvek. Your problems sound similar to my foaf though, and I'll bet money that you're using tyvek.

You could try 250ml water, 1/4 teaspoon gypsum and 350ml volume millet or WBS to each jar (quarts are only slightly smaller than 1lt jars), leave 24hrs and then PC for 75 minutes and then shake whilst hot. One stop job in the jar. No rinse, no mess. It works. Just tip upside down at about 80% colonised to drain the Co2. Haven't found it dry out.
Then use it anyway you want.

Put tape over your 1/4 in. polyfil plug then if they need air you can slice the tape open. Then you can see if thats the problem without compromising air exchange.
I'm beginning to wonder if the trick to getting proper moisture in grains isn't to soak your grains very well, almost as much as you want but not to mush, but then to make sure the outside of the grain is dry. This way the mycelium will still get to the water (even if you can't see it) without causing your grain to stick together and causing wetness at the bottom of the jar and stalling colonization at the bottom. Im trying this right now. I'll let you know how it goes.

TxTec, is that really your wife?
also, just incase you were wondering, the tek that says you add 140ml of seed to 80ml of water is bull shit and doesnt work... way too much water. if you use 140ml of seed be sure to use aprox. 50-60ml of water.... not 80
