Manson Family
    #1783058 - 08/05/03 08:31 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

I was just wondering what everyone's impression of the Manson Family is. I would prefer to hear from shroomerites who were around at the time but anything is welcome. I've been reading alot about the family recently, mostly because i am a big Beach Boys fan and had known the Manson had contact with the Wilson's for a while and in fact they adapted one of Manson's songs on the 20/20 album. Any comments?

Read Helter Skelter. It tells everything you ever wanted to know, and lots more. I admit that he had some intersting ideals and was probably very intelligent, but the corruption and murder outweighed any positive attributes that he may have had. He was and still is definitely a very disturbed individual.

Yeah, I agree. I read a criticism of Helter Skelter somewhere that said that the police really tried to tie separate events together to Manson, and that's how the myth of the family really came about. Some say the family was just a bunch of people who occasionally hung out or were acquainted with one another.

Well I was around when that shit went down but reading the book really gave me the chills!

Wild stuff

Recently I heard a story about some guy who had interviewed John Lennon and later was set to interview Charles Manson, he phoned Lennon and asked if he had anything that he would like to have him tell Manson. After thinking for a few minutes Lennon replied yeah, tell him Paul wrote Helter Skelter.

lol Ripple. That's funny but not really.

It was a different universe back then; a time when mass murder and mind control and all that was new to most people. Nowadays, hell you can buy art from guys like Manson, or like Learyfan said, cover songs they've written.

You're welcome. The main page is right here.

Also, you can hear "Cease To Exist" and other various Manson songs right here.

He made interesting music and had an interesting philosophy. Too bad he turned out the way he did.

Things that he says ring true in my mind. I have a saying about Manson: "he was driving in the right direction, but he was on the wrong side of the road".

Here's some examples. All of these quotes are lyrics from the album "Family Jams" which is a album of Manson's songs that were recorded by the family after Manson had already gone to jail for the last time for the Tate/Labianca murders.

Quote:

"If you're lookin' you'll never find. Don't try to keep up or you'll be left behind. The joke is over. You can look at the end and begin"(from the song "Give Your Love To Be Free")

I think what he's saying is that it's pointless to look elsewhere for happiness or an identity when you have it inside you the whole time. "The joke is over. You can look at the end and begin" IMO refers to taking a good look at "the truth" about life and then starting over.

Quote:

"Cause you are what you look at. This whole world you can see."(from the same song)

He's saying that everything is everything. Everything comes from one source and is a part of you.

Quote:

"Die To Be One"

I think he's talking about tripping and getting to the point where you "die"(or think you're dead) and realize that all is one.

Quote:

"Never ask why love never dies. Love never dies"(from "Die To Be One" as well)

He's saying everything is love and that death is an illusion. Sadly I believe this is his justification for murder(if nothing ever "dies" then killing must not be wrong)

Quote:

"No wrong. No wrong. Come along"

He's saying that nothing is intrisically "right" or "wrong", which is correct in my opinion, but once again this belief can be twisted into being a justification for murder.

Those are just some examples. His beliefs are very similar to my own. It's just a shame that his values were shaped in jail/prison his whole life.

I've been trying to find some mp3s of the LIE album but I dont think there are any on the internet at least. I'm a little worried about using Limewire or anything with the RIAA going after anyone. Anyone know if this album is still being printed?

You can still buy it. But it's Charles Manson. Don't buy it. Just go to www.slsk.org and download Soul Seek. It's great. I just checked it and 14 people online this minute have the whole album.

You will not be caught. They're looking for people trading thousands of files.
