Would be my first User created forum but I vowed a long time ago never to give this site another dime. So anyways do you shitheads still think we are on a downward spiral or is your head still up your ass?

What world are you living in? The prosperous are in that position at the expense of others and there is constant violence all over the world.

There are problems, yes.
But history prior to now has been significantly worse in that regard

I have to go to work but I expect another shroomerite will be able to/and will have the time to explain to you why this is a very peaceful and prosperous time with respect to the past. If not, I will do it when I return home this evening.
No offense meant, but you might want to study history a little more.

Well, if (relative) peace and prosperity isn't a measure of being "better off", then what is? Name one period in history in which you'd have a lower risk of dying from murder, famine or pointless wars?
And yes, I'm sure many of us agree that the mass culture and politics of our time is trite and ridiculous (not that every generation haven't been saying that since, I don't know, 10'000 BCE). That might be a problem, but I think it's a self-correcting one. This bland, meaningless corporate culture will probably be wiped out by something stronger sooner or later. In my opinion, the biggest problem humanity has brought upon the world is the systematic erasing of other species and entire ecosystems. That's a dent in history that will take some time to gloss over.

Did you ever think that maybe you are projecting your own problems and insecurities onto the world around you? Nothing is ever going to be perfect. But if you sit around all day and mope about the fucked up things in the world then your life is going to seem rather dismal and hopeless.
My local community is thriving and my life is going great. Civilization is not going to collapse any time soon unless a large unforeseen event occurs.

When people bring up the past during times like the Crusades what have you it kind of takes responsibility of ourselves in current times like there was not a natural cultural and technological evolution. Of course certain aspects of life are going to be better than in the past when they didnt have say antibiotics or basically the entirety of human knowledge at their finger tips.
That said how much further have we really come along? We have advanced so much. We have traveled to the moon. We have determined the sequence of chemical base pairs which make up DNA. We made it possible to connect people together instantly all over the world via the internet. To stay on topic what is the current state of a culture that helped usher in the "greatness" of today? A society obsessed with entertainment at the expense of others. A society as a whole that cannot for the life of them elect capable people to make logical decisions that do not interfere with personal freedoms or interject their ideological beliefs sometimes by force onto foreign nations. I mean you can go on and on and on.
With a life that is "so much better" than the past and the knowledge to truly make change for a better future what are we doing?

Thats not what Im doing. My insecurities are trivial and not related to the world around me. Any kind of "problems" I have are again not related the the state of modern mainstream culture.

Thats not what I do. I am simply making a thread to converse about said topic. I do not feel hopeless in any way shape or form and to pretend like you think you know me in that respect is rather rude and way off topic.

Good for you. Its not like that everywhere. You can live in your own bubble all you want but it doesnt change the state of the world.

"We" are not doing anything. We are a world of individuals. Do you expect everyone to work together for a better future? That certainly hasn't happened before and I don't see it happening any time soon. We're not an anthill set on making the best anthill ever.
Hey, I agree with your frustration in principle. The world could be so much better in so many ways and the only things that are done are short-sighted and near-sighted. I'm not sure what you're actually expetcing though, or what sort of human would have to populate the earth for this to be worlds.

The world is in a better state than it ever has been. People have more human rights, access to education, etc. Sure, there is still war and senseless murder but it's not any worse than it ever has been.
If you see problems in the world DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE THEM. People who complain about how the world is horrible and on a decline yet sit on their asses and don't do anything to fix it are what's wrong with the world right now.

This is a focal point of the problems we face. We are to busy caring about ourselves rather than treating everyone as a whole.

I do what I can but I am only one person. As a whole modern culture doesnt want change they want their Jersey Shore and Ben and Jerry's and night clubs on the weekend.
Again this thread is about the decline of an empire. Are you saying this way of life in not on the decline?

Sure, I'm with you. I don't think that can be changed without either fundamentally changing a) human psychology or b) the human life experience, from birth to death, including concepts like family, culture, property, rights, freedoms, language, & so on & so f.
By the way, I just (like, finished ten minutes ago) read this for some online class I'm taking. I feel like it's tangentially related to this thread. Or maybe it's just me.

Ill check it out after I get my taxes done. But I do not think humans at this point dont actually want to work together to make a better future or right the ship so to speak. The majority are being led astray with false promises and fear tactics which solidify the divide in the world. Its always "Them over there" with clear reward for getting ahead of everyone else.
