A Cool Movie!
    #1777349 - 08/04/03 02:10 AM (20 years, 7 months ago)

I was watching the satellite stuff tonight, and I saw the most wonderfully delightful little Russian film on IFC! It was called, "Black Cat, White Cat," and it was a 1998 Russian film. Very funny, and with whimsical, Fellini-esque (Fellinian?) imagery. I was a joy to watch -- a pure visual delight -- the kind of foreign film that just sweeps you up in it, makes you laugh our loud, and forget your reading subtitles!

I highly recommend it! Two Thumbs Up!

Thank you Papaver for this review. I seldom slow down to give foreign language films a chance unless they draw me in right away. Will give this one a look on your recommendation. I love IFC, btw.

They're showing "Black Cat, White Cat," again tomorrow morning (Tuesday am) at 2:00 am, btw.

Time to dust off the old VCR manual and figure out how to set the clock.

Another cool movie with English subtitles is "Wings of Desire" with Peter Faulk. His voice is in English.

From an online synopsis: The sky over Wenders' (the director) war-scarred Berlin is full of gentle, trenchcoated angels who listen to the tortured thoughts of mortals and try to comfort them. One wishes to become mortal after falling in love with a beautiful trapeze artist. Peter Falk, as himself, assists in the transformation by explaining the simple joys of a human experience, such as the sublime combination of coffee and cigarettes. Simultaneously sentimental and cerebral.

And not to rack down on the American world view  :nonono:, but it is a French/German production, and the plot takes place somewhere on the Balkan, not Russia .

Its a good movie
