Didgeridoo
    #17547814 - 01/14/13 04:21 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Do you play the didgeridoo? Have you heard one in person? What do you think about the instrument?

I think they are quite the meditative tool to express. I play habitually every night, get in to a trance, and just play on a 5-10minute string at a time until my lips stop doing what I want them to. Here is my baby, which, I picked up for only $80 two weeks ago. Quite an expensive piece of hollow wood. At least I did not pay ~$350 like the original owner did. It is agave wood, sealed inside, and out. I believe it is around 5' 10" with a 6" bell and plays a perfect D.

thats a nice big digeridoo. I have one and have been playing with it for about 4 months, still have not mastered circular breathing unfortunately.

its an amazing sound that you truly feel in your whole body as you play.

I heard it was the worlds first instrument and its all about what kind of sounds you can produce with your body.

:highfive: cool stuff

It takes a little practice to get the circular breathing part down.......I have heard many a doo at music festivals......I just sounds like a big fart when I try playing them.......:jah:

Never tried one but I have heard them and they are so cool.
At the Renesance festivle here in Colorado they have a digeridoo store and I was actually planning on getting myself one next summer.

Edit: renaissance festival

Here is a cool video of someone playing the didg and throat singing to animals.

It took me around 2 months to get circular breathing down. What helped me was to watch youtube videos where I grasped the concept and simply practiced without the didg then add it in. Once I added the didge I kept getting these tight fart putters and with enough practice, loosened up and continued my first drone. My suggestion would be keep it up and always end on what you would determine is a good note for the practice session.

My archaic, and first didg which was a much shorter straight piece of teak wood. Sometimes, I would set it in my passenger seat of my car. I would then play it at red lights and I got some weird looks, I assume it would look like a smoking device from a pedestrian view outside of the car. I have never had the audacity to play in my car, next to a police car though.

Yeah, i made my own digi out of PVC and bee's wax. I love the sound. People want to try and play it, but I have to explain its a very personal instrument, and I dont want to catch herpes from someone playing my digi........

was first exposed to a digeridoo at a small intimate music festival. The vibrations from them are very grounding and magical.

My girlfriend bought a doo after the festival, but I can't seem to get a good sound out of it. Just sounds like farts everytime I try, any tips?

Waiting on mine to come in the mail later this week
I was looking into circular breathing last night & I was trying it out for the first time on my own without a didgeridoo and I got a decent feel for how it's done, I am quite excited for either Wednesday or Thursday to come along

With the low cost and short amount of time invested, maybe it is time you make a "guest" didg in the same key so that others can try to get a drone going.

I use my older one for that purpose and find that most men can get a drone going fairly quick and people love how you can tweak each try and figure it out. It's a fun problem solving game for others

Later tonight I will present some resources on here and even allow for some free skype advice if you keep getting farts.

Yeah, not a bad idea.

I read that the digi is the oldest known wind instrument in human history.

I canmake sounds and say my name and small phrases. I can do animal sounds like an owl and a dog, and cat. Its mostly to do with how you slide your tongue back and forth on the roof of your mouth.

Hell, I'm gonna go play mine right now. Damn internet sparking old interests......
