Wanted: Complete history of Psilocybe cubensis cultivation.

I would like a link to the most comprehensive documentation of the history of cubensis cultivation on the net.
If there isn't one, I would like to create it.
Anyone who knows stories about cultivation methods, interesting anecdotes/legends or history prior to PF tek/MMGG, early "strains", All versions of the MMGG from 1.0 and up or anything else to contribute please do so here.

Having a quick Google, there doesn't seem to be any comprehensive timeline around.
Also I'm having trouble finding anything to do with cultivation prior to the MMGG in 1976.
I'll keep looking.

Where did you find anything about the MMGG in 1976?
I didn't think it was that old.

I got that book when it first came out. Some friends and I built a glovebox, knocked up some agar and then rye, and ended up with POUNDS of shrooms before trichoderma invaded all the casings. We didn't understand the concept of air exchange, so our fruiting chambers were basically mold incubators.
Anyways -- good book, and if you follow their instructions to the letter it works like a charm.

Where did the use of the syringe first occur? Was it the MMGG, or PF tek?

An early edition of The Whole Earth Catalog had an ad for petri dishes of mycelium for Cubensis. I think the guy's name was John Cage in Lemon Grove, CA. He mailed the cultures and some very complicated growing instructions for $40. This dates back to the early seventies and was the first cultivation information I've seen. The recipe called for rye grain with a large variety of micronutrients. It also included directions for a growth chamber with a bed of moist kitty litter heated with electric wires like the ones used to keep pipes from freezing. He suggested growing in small fish bowls.

A quick search of the newsgroups provided me with this ...
---
From: Psylocybe Fanaticus (pf@pf.bleep.com) Subject: The Hyperreal mushroom growers bulletin board Newsgroups: alt.drugs.psychedelics Date: 1995/11/03
This posting is for PF afficianados and practitioners. It is about the "Magic mushroom growers guide ver 2.4" at the HYPERREAL mushroom growers buletin board. To see it, go to your web browser and enter
[bleep]
This posting concerns further discussion on the inherent problems that are found in the "Magic mushroom growers guide" ver 2.4 Hyperreal web document version of the PF TEK.
I have a suspicion why the MMGG authors deemed the PF TEK dual chambered terrarium and bubbler technique inferior to using an ultrasonic humidifier. The kitchen product sprayers that they apparently used have low spray output, even on "high". I should have specified the all purpose bottle sprayer found at supermarkets. The spray from one of those babies will force feed the dual chambered terrarium humidity to 100% in a matter of seconds. Even a large dual chambered terrarium is easy to super charge with humidify. (photographed in the PF TEK) And then the aquarium bubbler takes over. I quote the tell tale passge from the "Magic mushroom growers guide" PF TEK copy at the HYPERREAL mushroom site.
"There are a lot of different products for use in the kitchen that have an adjustable spray nozzle."
--- in another post:
PF comments - Here we go again with those lousy sprayers. This whole thing seems to have been started by the MMGG ver whatever.
--- and another:
PFs' new spore syringe techniques unify the inoculation, colonization, casing and fruiting process.
...
PSYLOCYBE FANATICUS NEWS REPORT - may 1995
Almost 4 years ago (sept.91), Psylocybe Fanaticus introduced the PF magic mushroom growing TEK in High Times Magazine. Since then, PF has received many letters of appreciation from customers. PF has used this feedback to continually improve and clarify the technique instructions. PF strives for perfection in the transmitting of this knowledge.
Since the introduction of the new cultivation TEK, PF has stated in the ads that the PF TEK makes all other methods, books, videos and kits obsolete. Admittedly that is quite a claim, but now there is ample evidence for support.
1. The PF TEK was copied by "Power Products", a rip off (mail fraud) advertiser in High Times Magazine. 2. Recently the Florida Mycology Research Center in Pensacola Florida has copied the PF TEK. 3, The PF TEK is appearing on the Internet in various world wide web psychedelic mushroom pages placed by mycophiles unknown to PF. 4. Matias Romero mentioned PF very favorably in his "How to Grow Magic Mushrooms" article in the June 1995 issue of High Times Magazine. "Psylocybe Fanaticus...Innovative spore- injecting and growth medium makes this system a winner. The cutting edge." Matias Romero HT magazine

Interesting.
Is it even known who the author of the MMGG is/was?

Search Result 393 From: Anonymous (nobody@REPLAY.COM) Subject: Improved Version of the P.F. Tek Notes This is the only article in this thread View: Original Format Newsgroups: alt.drugs Date: 1995/09/14
The P.F. Tek Notes have earned their place in history, but it is now time for them to step aside. A group of amature mycologists have just completed a new version (Ver. 2.4) of their "Magic Mushroom Growers Guide" and the keepers of Hyper-Real have given it a home.
The URL for the document is:
*
or you can get to it from the index at:
*
The Guide is both simpler to use and more complete than the P.F. Tek Notes. Numerous improvements and optional optimizations are included in the guide. The first time cultivator can't fail if they follow the simple directions provided in the guide. Not only is this guide better than the P.F. Tek Notes, it's *FREE*. Hopefully, P.F. will be able to compensate for the lost sales of their Tek Notes by the increased demand for spore syringes that this document is sure to bring.
Incidently, the same group of amature mycologists that wrote this guide are now focused on creating a similar guide for the very potent P. cyanescens species. The constraints for this new guide are the same as those that the "Magic Mushroom Growers Guide" was developed under. An amature has to be able to succeed first time and with minimal effort and expense. It is expected that this new guide will be ready in 5 or 6 months.

If you go to www.textfiles.com/drugs/ there are a few interesting early text files about growing cubensis. One of them is by Stephen Pollock, another from 1976 by Adam Gottlieb, and a few others from either the late 80's or early 90's. Hope this helps

Enter, I love that avatar - what is that exactly, I'm sure it's related to an ancient mushroom ingesting society and all, just wondering if you knew the specifics.

I guess the beginning of the Western experience with mushrooms dates to Wasson's trek to Mexico, when, in the early fifteies? Someone probably knows the whole tale off the top of their head. It was published in Life, I think.

There is a book on the complete history of psilocybin mushroom cultivation by Jochen Gartz and John W. Allen with over 300 pictures and history of the cultivation of the mushrooms. It is at this link I found in yahoo about half an hour ago.
http://www.mushroomjohn.org/cult1.html
The book is called, "Psilocybian Mushroom Cultivation: A Brief History."
Sorry guys, I have no way to make a photo of the book cover so I could not post a picture of it. Maybe someone else knows how to look. I did see some unbelievable photographs of cultivations in Amsterdam of massive tiers of what were cubes and other species grown in Amsterdam. Someone told me they are now illegal there.
This book has about 300 photos. Easy reading. Also another author wrote a magazine article in Entheogen named Yajai or something that sounds like that is spelled. I cannot pronounce it and could not find any references to that name on the Internet. I looked b briefly and that book has a lot of nice photograms, some from Shroomery Mods as well.
