Mycelium colonised inside of fruit body (question)
    #17517287 - 01/08/13 01:04 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Hi guys, a quick question…

I recently had a couple of larger than average fruits and so decided to clone them, however as disorganised as usual I needed to pour some agar which meant that the fruit bodies were left in an airtight container overnight.

The problem is that when I split one of them open the mycelium had colonised the hollow shaft inside the stem, I still managed to retrieve a segment that was untouched by the mycelium but my question is would I be right in assuming that the new mycelium would contain genetics independent from the fruit body it was colonising?

I.e. meaning it's a completely separate entity to the actual mushroom (the shroom in question was left for around 36 hours in an airtight container before cloning).

Many thanks.

The whole fruiting body is mycelium, so it's fine.

Since you're using agar, if you get a contam, you will be able to isolate your myc.

My understanding is that a fruiting body from a MS grow is not an isolate. Even if you didn't have the other myc growing in the stipe, it would still have multiple genetics.

Even a pin put on agar will sector.
