Please can you help me ID this one. Was given to me by a friend who has been growing for a long time but hasn't sampled it yet.
Thanks

^ I'd say that is probably a good guess. It's hard to tell though.

Thanks guys. So is it definitely not San Pedro? Is it even worth growing if it is cuzcoensis because I heard the active content is much lower.

Yeah, it's definitely not a San Pedro, a common name given to Trichocereus pachanoi. But it may be worth growing. I don't think this is a cuzcoensis. It could possibly be a peruvianoid. I'd want it in my collection regardless of alkaloid content.
Any chance you can take pictures of the mother plant? Close ups of spines, new growth and entire plant would help in identification.

I'd say its worth growing, regardless if it has alkaloids or not. Cacti are beautiful

Yeah. I don't want cross pollination though. Is there any way to prevent Trichs from cross pollinating? E.g. keeping them separate some how or some other way? How easily do they cross?

You could cut the flowerbud off when it forms.

T. cuzcoensis seems to be, BUT there is always possibility that it's a hybrid tricho. And actual parent cactus you will never know.
I have seen so many different t. cuzcoensis from pics and for real plants. Sold as t. peruvians/bridgesii/pachanoi/cuzco/macrogonus/etc.. you name it..
For me, it's impossible for know 100% sure its t. cuzcoensis, but it's possible to see features of t. cuzcoensis and quess it might be hybrid as t. cuzcoensis as another parent. OR it's real cuzco..
For decorational and collector of trichocereus cactis, your cutting seems very nice specimen.
IF you are going to ingest that cutting all I can say: Top red spines looks similar to one trichocereus what I have taken and it was active, but there is not every features of that tricho in the picture what I have taken as medicine.
Put it in to container to root and grow nice big tricho for yourself as decorational cactus.

Thanks for all the info guys!
I needs some help with these too please:
FIRST:
If I wanted to propagate it, what's the best way? a. plant the whole piece and wait for it to establish before taking cuttings or b. break off all the individual pieces, let the ends dry and then root and pot?
Thinking of at least cutting/snapping off where the red line is as there are roots in too places if you look carefully:
SECOND AND THIRD:
The one one the left was sold as San Pedro and on the right, Peruvian Torch. What do you think these are? Note that they have both been de-spined...
Thanks

Ok. So I potted them up. I know not to water the ones without roots yet but how often should I water the bridgesii that does have roots? And how much water at a time?

those are aireal roots they won't take in water yet. they will form inside the soil give them about 3 weeks then give a water so soil is moist don't drench then leave till soil is dry then repeat every time soil is dry during growth season tbm roots form very fast once in soil. don't worry if your soil is a touch moist as long as the cacti hasn't any cuts or damage it will be ok in the soil. i water mine twice a week the go nuts with water i don't even let my soil dry during the growing season but that's only for trichocereus species. but don't do that Im just telling you once the roots establish they can take a fair drink and they seem to love a regular quarter strength fertalize and seaweed extract.
