What is Christ?
    #17388120 - 12/13/12 08:30 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

I know all the basic stories, so don't bother with those. Foscing on more of a mystical or symbolic meaning of what the Christ is in terms of transcendence.

Coming from a Buddhist background, we have 1.) life is dukkha (because it is unstable, transitory, unsatisfying) 2.) the cause of dukkha is clinging to life 3.) the means of transcendence from dukkha, which is to let go of all grasping to the fleeting phenomena of life 4.) the path to actualize this transcendence is the 8-fold path.

Now in Christianity the formula goes 1.) man's fallen nature in evil 2.) the cause of evil is man turning away from God, from goodness, i.e. sin. 3.) The means of transcendence through Christ the Saviour 4.) the means to actualize this transcendence is through faith in Christ the saviour

So yeah, what is Christ suppose to mean, and represent, if taken symbolically? Or if taken spirituality, how does this actualization actually occur? Is Christ an actual entity? A process? A force from God?

If you are Christian, why is transcendence through Christ a more effective option then, say realizing the impermanence and emptiness of phenomena.

Slightly more advanced question: is the symbol of the Christ emptiness? ie. Christ is 'one who is empty of sin' and therefore I might say 'empty of essence of this world'.

Essence of a frustrated 33 year old virgin who has a hissy fit on the most sacred holy day of the year and gets ruthlessly crucified by his fellow Jews for his poor behavior, to be more accurate.

Perhaps we should have one thread dedicated to spiritual funnies to funnel all this stuff away when people actually want to make legitimate threads. Not that I'm offended by any of that, I'm after all not a Christian, I would just appreciate my thread not be totally derailed in the first few posts, and filled with crap that may chase away people who could have a serious answer. It sort of degrades the spiritual value this community can offer. I, of course have been guilty of such activity in the past, but planning on refraining from it from now on.

So yeah, if you have nothing of substance to contribute, gtfo my thread.

Christ was the 9th incarnation of Vishnu and he resides in the Agnya (so called "third eye") Chakra. This is according to Shri Mataji, a guru who I put more stock in than any other.

To me, Christ is the realization of relating on a whole new level, I feel what others do, others feel what I do. Christ was my rebirth into empathy.

Sorry, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Why do you put more stock in this guru then other ones? I've never heard this explanation of Christ, it to be honest sounds quite outlandish. Are you sure your guru didn't just make this up?

I can dig that. So you take Christ as a symbol of compassion, and the 'born again' aspect was transitioning from the narrow pov of selfishness, to an all encompassing, open empathy/compassion? Interesting, and I can relate. Thanks for the response pyrate.

Christ is controlled schizophrenia. The kind of schizophrenia most people don't mind. All of us are loony, some stray from the group. Christ brings them back.

Really? I thought Christ was all about ditching the group, your family, and your worldly possessions for the sake of something more important.

A Christ is someone with a mind perfectly centered in reality, away from the false center society gives you.

I don't think there is center to mind, so if your mind is centered on anything, isn't that still some form of grasping or conditioning?
