Cob web in BRF *Pics third Post*
    #17173740 - 11/06/12 04:36 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

So it's about day 3-4, I think I see slight cob web mold.. I heard it's a pretty weak mold. Should I wait to see how things progress or should I immediately scrub the two jars? (i put them aside)

If you're sure it's mold. It doesn't sound like you're sure.

Before you scrub out or snuff any poor jars, you should take a clear picture for us to look at.

it's only day 4 so there's not much to take a picture of...I've seen pictures and it looks pretty similar (Whispy, cloudy). Here's the best pics I got. I got 14 other jars going (Total of 16 including the iffy ones). I isolated these from the others as soon as I saw it. I am also concerned with the extra moisture that seems to be going on in there...

Edit: Also as a note I accidently used White Rice Flour for 4 jars. I realized my mistake, got a grinder and 2 big bags of Whole Brown Rice.

Its hard to tell on my screen but the top one does look like cob web. You said that it has been 4 days since inoculation? And you are using spores and not culture right? It seems like thats is alot of mycellium growth for it only being 4 days from inoculation. Unless you are using a lc or something. When I do cakes it usually takes a week before I can see the white growth and its only a small amount. Cob web mold spreads very fast it pretty much pops up over night.

You should be fine with the white rice probably just wont have as much nutrients but im not 100% on that?

And also im glad you are using those cakes for spawn because it would be impossible to get them out of those jars in one piece lol.
Good luck.

Cool thanks, I just needed a 2nd push to do it...lol.

So i guess I'll dump the substrate outside (Wearing gloves/mask), put them in my canner and steam sterlize the jars so at least I won't be out jars....stupid big boody jars....

Thankfully I got a pack of 12 half pints standard size so I won't have to deal with that frustration much :P.

You'd be better off sterilizing the jars before you open them to clean them out.
