what do you guys use to get rid of pests on your "edible" cactus species? please advise, m69

depends on the pests. For bugs and flies and things like that use soapy water or soapy water with a cigarette steeped in it. If it's mealy bugs and thing under the skin you could use alcohol.

it ios for fly type pests. do i just spray the soapy water on? dip? one more question too nuero..this wont affect the plant if it gets to the roots will it? i know that the flesh should be protected because of the "waxy-ness" of it. i just dont want to hurt my babies:) thanks:) m69

certain soaps you can use as a fertilizer. However yo uwouldn't use so much soap such that it burns the plants. It'll be fine for the roots if it's not too concentrated. You'd spray it on.

Dish detergent. But don't use "concentrated" detergents. Something cheap...

Huh? Pesticidal "soap" is nothing like detergent! Are you sure this is a good idea?

Get some nicotine pesticide. Don't steep ciggeretes in something -- you might enjoy bathing you lungs in all those nasty chemicals, but you're risking damaging your cactus.

It works and is a cheap easy source of nicotine if you also smoke or know someone who smokes. Not all the chemicals in a cig are water soluble. I've used cigarettes many a time and have had no ill effects. You have to dilute accordingly of course!!! I dilute it down til the water is semi brown but no where near comnpletely cloudy and dark.

As for soap regular liquid dish soap, not dishwasher soap or detergent, but normal cheap soap, liquid Joy works well, but it really doesn't matter. Also that must be dilute.
