Can I get the Pub's opinion on a dog leash I made? 1

As some of you might know I'm a CNC machinist and part owner of a plastics company. We relaunched one of our products this past week and would like to get some honest feedback.
It's a dog leash with a built in "no touch" pooper scooper, with built in lights.
the site is http://www.swoofer.com/ or swoofer on facebook.
This took me a year to make and test, and we were trying to get a big distributor. Costs for making molds and assembly in Canada make our costs higher so we are opting for lower pricing and online only.
What do you guys think? would you buy or think people will buy this? it's priced at 24.95$
Thanks

Eh, I honestly would not buy it. Just kind of big and bulky looking and I would for sure not want to carry it around all the time. Also, I probably would never use the flash light but I guess the bagger is king of cool.
Actually, if I could buy an automatic poop bagger, which im sure I can somewhere, I would like that a lot more than this device.
This is a product that I would need to use before buying no doubt about that. Seems a bit too useless? Also my dog looks like it could break it, maybe for a smaller dog.

Thanks for you post. It weighs about 2 pounds and it is quite strong. It was not our design but a customer who started the project but did not have the money to finish. We had a decision to finish it ourselves and become partners, or stop all work.
Original concept was for city dwellers who had to walk their small dogs on streets. Women seem to like it more than men so far, and pink is the most popular color

I think it is a very cool idea, you guys need to get on late-night TV. You need to find a way to reach that niche market of yuppie dog owners and demonstrate that the product works before they buy.

Looks pretty useful though a bit bulky. I would use the lights and the scooper (depending on how fiddly it is)
Grip doesn't look that comfortable and it looks to be at the wrong angle, having the handle like this would be better
I probably wouldn't buy it but I know many people would

If I had a dog I would for sure consider it, even if it was just to support your company. I think it's really cool, but could use a few adjustments. For example on the handle it might be better for it to be slanted and towards the back more. Sort of like posted above.

Thanks for your opinions moonrock - producing an infomercial and getting a pitchman like Billy Mays (RIP) was the original intention but lack of money is the issue now. All marketing was supposed to be done by the inventor but since he went belly up and disappeared we don't want to throw money at something that might not pay off. spoonbob - we cannot redesign now but I can tell you that it is not uncomfortable to use. A bit bulky but it keeps the shit in the unit until you hit a garbage can.
here is our youtube infomercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=KWlkYkbKmII

Its a great idea dude, you'll sell a few thousand for sure. If not more.
Does it work well in tall grass and anywhere else?
Also, try to contact Dragon's Den. You just might get in and find an investor.

I gotta agree with that assessment, it's not something I can picture using with my dog regardless of price point or weight. Bags are light to carry and I never get shit on my hands anyway, and if I was going to carry around a device to do this I'd probably rather carry it in the hand not holding the leash. My feeling is that it could be a struggle to make money with this design, but I could be totally wrong. I think it's awesome that you are involved in bringing out new inventions though and I would love to see other stuff your company has done.

It is a good idea and good price for the product but honestly I wouldn't buy it only because with my budget I would rather spend $25 on something else. I can always put a poop bag in my pocket and carry a flashlight if needed.
But I can tell you I can think of 4 people on the top of my head that would be interested in something like this. It could make a good Christmas gift or something.

your target audience is fucking huge, probably 3/4 of the dog owners live in cities or neighborhoods where bagging the poo is a necessity. I think you have a pretty good, highly marketable product as long as you can get the visibility you want

I let my dog loose on walks, so probably not. I don't even have a fence in my back yard, and I live on the corner.

We tried dragon's den but was unable to make it past preliminaries to get to the dragons.
It will work in tall grass but it will leave a smear if too soft (ewww) the bag is long enough and it wraps around the unit so any excess will be inside the bag when its wrapped up inside the unit.
I went to a few flea markets to get some opinions too. Only sold a few but most people admitted to not picking up their dog's shit. I was in a rural area though, we expect to sell more in more densely populated areas. Europe will be a big market too as some cities take dog waste very seriously.

I like it. But I don't really understand the light? For the few people that walk down dark, unlit roads, sure... but is it bright enough for those few?

You should approach your local Walmart. They help small businesses like yours sell their product. I believe you have to pay them for shelf space and a percentage of the profits (I think). Go talk to the manager.
Also, go see some small store owners.
Go big. Go talk a a Petsmart manager, you never know.

That's a great idea Johnnie. Ditch the light though. It's convenient for night time walks but it's just unnecessary. You could cut your production costs and your product would be less bulky which is probably the main reason someone wouldn't buy it.

I think the light was my favorite part. I don't have a dog though.
If your dog is a puller it won't help. That light will be all over the place. My mom always walked with a leash and a flashlight in the other hand. Probably, slightly more practical to carry a light separate from the leash but it is a cool selling point.
