God Damned Bleeding Heart Do-gooders

Yes, I know they're well meaning. But god dammit! To torture an animal like this, forcing it to live just to satisfy some pathetic human need to avoid death at all costs no matter the suffering. And then wasting $30,000 that could have gone to help a dozen other sick animal who could fully recover but whose owner can't afford to treat even as humans die because they can't afford a doctor.

God dammit.

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) β€” A dog that lost its snout while saving two girls in the Philippines has been brought to the University of California, Davis, where veterinarians will try to fix its injuries.

Surgeons at UC Davis' veterinary medical teaching hospital looked over the mixed breed dog named Kabang on Thursday.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Kabang became a star in the Philippines after it got in front of a speeding motorcycle, saving the dog owner's young daughter and niece.

The crash took off the dog's snout and its upper jaw, and veterinarians in the Philippines were unable to treat the injury.

So Karen Kenngott, a critical care nurse from Buffalo, N.Y., spearheaded an online fundraising campaign for the dog's care.

Thursday's hour-long exam at UC Davis included blood and urine tests.

Surgeons determined that the dog will need at least two surgeries over the next six weeks β€” one procedure to focus on dental work and another to close the gaping wound on her face.

There were no plans to fit Kabang with a "prosthetic snout" or to replace the dog's jaw, the hospital said in a statement.

That is truly disgusting, there is a certain point where the most humane thing to do is put them down.

And how would you suggest to draw the line? A dog could be put out of it's misery when an American would be legally forced to suffer.

If a person is in that bad a state they should be given the choice.

Well a human can  communicate "hey, pull the plug", but what would then decide the fate of an animal?

An animal based in instinct would likely instinctively want to live even if in pain.  If we presume to own them then we have the responsibility imo to presume to choose how their life should go based on our ability to be compassionate and loving.  I've never had a problem putting a dog down. There are millions of dogs who can't find a home.  If the quality of life of the animal does not meet my standards of "good" then I find a way to end it if I can.  I have to keep my mouth shut around "animal lovers" almost without exception. Especially at the rescue where I volunteer.  They are without exception ime terrified of death.

It doesn't seem rational allow each individual to have final control over "other life" when each individual can't even be legally trusted with control of their own.

Who said it was rational?  It's what's happening.

The difference is that I used rationale to contrast a fatal flaw in the double standard of the superiority complex.

UC Davis is a vet school - their advances in treating these cases create treatments and better surgical techniques and medical advancements. And $30k is a drop in the bucket. Davis charges more than that a year for someone to go to vet school there. In fact, you can become a doctor in California for much cheaper than becoming a veterinarian. Figure that one out. Oh yeah, because UC Davis is the *only* vet school in California.

Also - there are plenty of ways to gauge pain in dogs. I'm sure if Kabang (or whatever) was showing signs of pain they are being taken care of at Davis. At least, I would hope so. What I don't really understand is how the dog is supposed to eat or drink water? I guess scooping? Surely not force feeding it or feeding tube in the side...though I have known cats with permanent ones...

It kind of makes me wonder if  this is a prank but I'm too tired to look it up.

Bottom line - if it was my dog - and it was wagging its tail when it saw me after the accident, I'd try to save it, but that's just me. You just know when it's time.

This story is not a hoax. It's on all the major news networks.

And I'm sure glad I'm not your dog. I don't care for torture at the hands of neurotic humans riddled with death anxiety who would keep me alive to wag my tail for them no matter how fucked up that may be.

I wish a giant asteroid would hit this planet and wipe every last human out of existence. The universe would be a notch up on the shit scale without us and our neurotic aversion to death at every expense.
