High, i'm new to the shroomery and i'm on my first grow. i got my advice from a another shroomery member that i know from another forum and he sent me here to read and learn.... so after doing that for a bit i felt pretty comfortable moving forward.
so i built a make shift colonization chamber with some parts laying around...
and now a few weeks later i'm at the end of day one in fruiting...
I assume i'm looking ok and nothing is going wrong.... if anyone notices something i am doing wrong please speak up. I can take criticism very well!!!!
plus i just felt i had to show somebody since i have been the only person to see them!!! haha
thanks for looking!!!!!

I Think u have too many holes in ur chamber...they need to be 1/4" holes 2 inches apart on all 6 sides if ur going for a shotgun fruiting chamber...too many holes too close to each other like that might very well reduce your overall humidity.
How deep is the perlite u have in there?...4-5 inches?

Well yea it does look like u need a lil more FAE...but also I don't think the humidity is right either...I doubt that hygrometer is accurate.
And u don't need that hygrometer in there. I can almost guarentee its not gonna last long in high humidity, electronics+humidity=short life.
Not to mention a properly built SGFC will maintain the perfect amount of humidity, as long as u have enuf perlite.

thanks so much guys!!! and yes i believe that is a pin popping out... they had a couple pins in the jars when i birthed them, and yea, i could probably be doing more fanning of fresh air.... only did that a couple times the first day.... i will fan much more often now that you brought it to my attention. thanks again!!

my holes are about 1/8" and probably twice as many as you said... i made the chamber about a week before the cakes were ready and i noticed it was lower RH (about 94%) and my temps were also very low(67F) so i decided to put the entire chamber into a tub with water and an aquarium heater and installed a sonic humidifier on a timer... it has been a constant 73F and 97-99% RH. i understand 99% leaves standing water but i really don't see any of that.
so rather than lack of RH, i thought maybe i had to much. what do you think?
OH... ad yea, i have about 4" of perlite in the bottom and holes are also in the bottom.

thanks and i will definitely fan them much more often.
and i agree the RH meter won't last long.... i don't keep it in there all the time either.... the small $1 mechanical one is in there all the time... don't really care if it breaks, only $1!!!
and when i first built the chamber the RH was holding very high but the temps were so low.... this is what caused me to put it in another tote and put the heater in place.
also, i put a co2 outlet tube just above the water level in the outer chamber.
here are some pics to show that...
thank you for your input!!!!

you got it dude!!
The whole reason i even started growing these in the first place was that i bought concert tickets to see primus in mid october for a 3D psychedelic show... i haven't tripped in many years and we really wanted to for this show. since i don't know or trust anyone to get them for me, i decided to grow them myself.
so back on August 30 i inoculated 12 jars... six with GT and six of the maz!! and i birthed and coated them on sept. 24th at midnight.... i'm a night owl..
only two of the GT fully colonized and the other four jars are sill filling out.... not sure why these four are behind, i just chalked it up to beginners error and didn't really worry about it...
most people would have their eye on yield... i don't.... i have me eye on having mushrooms by the beginning of october. we would like to trip once before we go to the concert to get a feel for them.... . . . . thanks again everybody for the advice!!! to sum up i am going to: 1 Fan the chamber much more often to create more FAE. 2 continue to check and monitor RH... i'll even pick up a quality meter very soon... any recommendations on the RH meter brand/model anyone?

-------------------- “Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering its a feather bed.” ― Terence McKenna http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16446377#16446377

I am just wondering why the red dots are on those five jars? My guess is that you put those there to keep track of what jars were showing mycelium growth in the beginning?

Probably what he used to mark the different strains I'm guessing.
