Why does our society place the bath/shower in the same room as the toilet?

yep and why doesn't every home have a bidet? wiping with paper to clean ones self isn't that great

No, not really. You gotta fit bathrooms with fixutes made of porcelain, tile, and waterproofing and ventilation. Glossy paint, the whole bit. The only other room in the house that comes close to fitting the needs of the bathroom is your kitchen, and you don't wanna shit where you eat, do you?

I'm sure there are many different alternatives that could be thought out. Why not keep the toilet in the basement? Or let each have its own room?

Might as well keep the toilet in the kitchen with the way we have it now...

Space. Not everyone can afford an extra room for a minor sanitation issue.

Might as well keep the toilet in the kitchen with the way we have it now...

I'd rather have poop particles on my skin than in my food. Not that I want poop particles anywhere...
