Good Fresh Fruit This Summer.....What's Your Favorite Fruit?
    #16717849 - 08/17/12 10:15 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Damn, they are having a good harvest of summer fruit.  I just ate a shitload of black plums and nectarines--juicy and sweeter than hell. :awesomenod: Some of the better ones I had in a while.  Gonna pick up some apricots tomorrow; apples and pears don't come online for about another month here.

My favorite has to be a good nectarine, even more than a peach.

I found some blackberries fishing once, up in the mountains here--about august in fact.  there were on a little 'island' in the middle of a high mountain creek.  so I got a cup and picked them-about a cupeful, and they were a purple mush that when I tasted it, was like  cause those fuckers were so sweet.

Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries.

If I wake up before noon,  otherwise the birds get them.

Neighbor down the street has a bunch of peach trees.

Looks like she's just letting them rot on the tree this year.

I'magonna grab a few when I go out for a smoke I think

I go up to Ruidoso River about October, there are all these wild little apple trees, and apples all over the ground.  They taste great after a freeze, full of sugar.  My mom likes them for pies.  There are also wild yellow or gold colored apples.

That's pretty much what is here, but in the desert you also have pecans.  In the mountains here is also wild squash, asparagus, watercress, pears, pecans, mushrooms (going hunting tomorrow for actives) and deer, elk, oryx, rabbits, wild boars, bighorn sheep, barbary sheep, antelope, turkey, quail.... :awesomenod:

Blackberries.

I remember tripping once way too hard for my own good and my blood sugar was low. I don't know how many I ate, I was dehydrated in the middle of summer too. I remember crying to them and begging forgiveness.

Picking fresh wild strawberries is so fun too.

Canning a shitload of it for winter is even more win.

CANTALOUPE!!! By far :yesnod: We've got a lot of it in our garden and I'm quite happy this year! Last year our cantaloupe tasted so unsweet and we realized it was because we needed better nutrients for it and to let it sit longer. We also have some blackberry vines that are delicious... but the birds think so too. :psycrankey:

Definitely enjoying a lot of blackberries, strawberries, kiwi, nectarines and plumbs, of course with the apples and oranges..

nom...nom..nom....

fruit is my favorite food :awegroove:

Yep, cantaloupe is good stuff. Especially when it's at that perfect ripeness and it's sweet...good shit.

There aren't many cantaloupes in America, I'd be surprised if you found any in Houston.  They're so perishable that they don't typically make the journey from Europe where they're grown.  Not many farmers on this continent grow cantaloupes, though you can find them grown by some small farms and co-ops.
