Beautiful Bridgesii, concerned about spots though
    #16658970 - 08/07/12 06:46 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

I should've taken another pic, but this one is taken the base of the cactus, the spots are appearing on a pup which she sprouted a few months back.  The pup is also the only part of the cactus where i am noticing any new growth. What should i do? They seem to be getting bigger.

In my opinion it kinda looks like rust, and/or rot.. What puzzles me is if it is rot, then why did it start on the pup?!? You may want to wait for more experienced members to chime in before taking any action.

If it is rust or rot, I would cut out the infected area with a sharp knife sterilized with rubbing alcohol (clean the knife before the cut and after each following cut). Then if you have Sulfur powder available, I would dust the fresh cut to prevent any further infections or spread.

:goodluck:

Defiantly not a bridgesii. But don't throw it away! It may not be active, but it's a cool cactus...

I don't have a cuzco yet. If you don't, why not keep it, used it as a grafting stock?

Not a bridgesii and you should be pissed at yourself not the person that sold it to you. I can not believe that you bought a plant that you were going to consume with out identifying it correctly and we are not talking about a miss identified peruvian but a bridgesii which looks nothing like what you have. You not only didn't do any research yourself before you bought the plant you didn't even bother to check what you had when you got it.
I also think that posting the ebay seller here is really bad form if you don't know what a bridgesii is what makes you think he did it could quite easily have been an honest mistake just because some one sells cacti doesn't mean that they are an expert on identifying all cacti.

Cheers
Got

I saw this thread this morning, and just didn't have the time to get into it... I was like, I wonder who's going to be the first to tell him he's gonna have to scratch one bridgesii from his garden roster?

The name of the thread is priceless though...
