The New Testament.
    #16568900 - 07/22/12 03:17 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

A dualistic approach to a time-honoured, metaphorical, and nondualistic evaluation of existence?

Discuss.

And let's try to exclude quotes from the fallen ones (illogical cretinism) directly out of The Wheel of Time (TM Robert Jordan).

Well nondualism is certainly a fashionable word to use these days.. too bad it's often unclear what people actually mean when they use it. So yeah usually it is just a statement about transcendental identity, and if you're thinking about Indian advaita or something like that then as far as I know, there are several advaita gurus who think that the new testament is also essentially a nondualist vision.

Anyway, from a broader use of the terms "dualistic" and "nondualistic" it's clear that most religious texts are extremely dualistic, including those that profess they are "nondualistic": They always profess some view that is correct, something else that is wrong or illusion, usually also claim some sort of liberation to those who realize the correct vision, etc.

Well what I'm thinking of, mostly, is why cannabis is the root of all conscious thought.

Because you see three. You hear one. But you know it's two.

This is the oldest yoga practice I know of, really...

You are saying that the New Testament is about smoking cannabis?  :rastamon:

I'm saying that the old testament is about smoking cannabis, and the new testament is about attempting to persecute those who have chosen to accept their dharma.

It's a multi-surface writing presented as a story, layered in code, and full of metaphor. It's as much a story about some dude with magical zombie powers as it is an almost accurate calendar for mapping stars, sun and moon patterns.

“The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Those who have will be given more, and they will have an abundance. As for those who do not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: “‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’

But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.”

With that said, I don't think the entire writings of the New Testament are about marijuana. It's a layered book full of different meaning. Written in a fractal nature that hides meaning within itself, it says as much as it can in as few words as the writers saw fit. Many of the deeper meanings may have been lost to translation, and in popular culture a lot of it's meaning has been bastardized by people who take things far too literally. The book is more a thinking exercise, something used to teach people about astrology, math, music and nature disguised as a fantastic myth.

The level of stupidity here never ceases to amaze me. It seems like many people think philosophy means to "Insert your bullshit here."

Agreed.

If you can't make a sound argument or at least something other than bare assertions, its worthless.  Actually, much of the articles in academic philosophy journals seem ridiculous as well, but at least they make arguments- if only about irrelevant crap.
