Be yourself. Don't let anxiety get in the way. Every single person is just as nervous as you if not more nervous.

Don't give a fuck about what people think. If you aren't yourself you'll attract negative people. Who you are will attract the people you want to be around naturally.

Alcohol is a great social lubricant, but only to an extent. Don't party, use alcohol as a tool to build relationships, not a way to get fucked up.

Focus on your work, but have fun.

Enjoy the adventure. You'll love it. I'm jealous.

Parties and you'll probably meet people anyway through your room mates.

THIS.

Unless you're engaging in illegal activities, doing homework, or doing the dirty, keep it open. You'll meet a ton of people. Also, if you smoke cigarettes, that is a great way to meet people.

Basically be friendly and approachable, and don't be afraid to approach people and you will make friends in no time.

But also remember keeping your dorm room open can let annoying tards in too though. Met some cool people that way but some others where I just wanted them out

Here's a tip:

Don't act like a college student.

Be an individual. Don't be the Every Man who wears bar & restaurant t-shirts with gym shorts and flip flops. Get rid of your trucker hat and stop drinking cheap beer by the gallons. Avoid band posters or Salvador Dali prints from the campus bookstore. Don't walk on the sidewalk with the rest of the herd: walk on the grass or cut through the bushes. Sit by yourself. Eat outside. Don't check your phone 12,000 times while you're on campus. You're not that fucking important. Fall in love with women, don't hit on them while you're drunk and full of horse shit. Actually read the books you're assigned. Get to know your professors as people. And so on.

Social workers teach integration skills.

I'm more into teaching dis-integration skills.

Gotta endorse and repeat this as well.  Think about it:  Depending on the size, you're going to be next door neighbors with several hundred (even thousands) of kids 18-21 years of age.  No parents, barely any responsibility, etc.

How awesome is that?

Man I wish I could re-live college.  Enjoy it.

Personally, I don't worry about making friends or care about it, because it isn't really important. The friends that will actually be beneficial to you in the future are the teachers that will be writing letters and being a reference. So find a smart teacher and join the clubs to learn even when your not in school. Associate degree is a cake-walk imo, but the educators you will meet are more important then the students.

There are some students I have met that would make good friends, but I don't bother with facebook and cell phones and that stuff, so I avoid most of the drama.

I can be sociable when I want too, most of the time it seems pointless though. If you need a study partner or something that is a different story imo. Find another person who prioritizes school above all else if you want a valuable friend. Likely your not going to see most of the people you meet ever again, so I don't get attached to any of them.

Prioritize school and learning above all else imo.

If you can take courses offered by doctors and do well, then those will be valuable references in the future. If a Doctor is running a club that you are interested in, then I would definitely get involved.

Also most of the 101 courses aren't going to transfer to a university, so if you can take the more challenging courses when it is an option, if you think you can manage it with a decent grade, then do it.

I did mostly science creds and still only need 55 creds for B.S. in Comp Sci or in Biology, because most of the credits I did will transfer as core creds. Then again I double majored so I will also go for a B.A. as well.

If you smoke get one of those Electronic Vaping Cigarettes.  That way besides being outside meeting other people that smoke you will have a great conversation piece.  That and you can let the attractive smoker chicks try it out.

For sure be yourself, relax and don't permit anyone to notice your anxiety.  The Exhibition of Confidence can go a long way with the ladies.

Whatever you do, do not follow fashion.  You don't want to be one of those dweebs that went off to college a few years back and came back home HIPPER THAN HIP!

Learning about mycology actually.

I do drugs too man. Some reason it doesn't effect my grades much at associate level. If it starts to be a problem and I start getting C's then maybe I will rethink smoking pot. I am also an advocate of legalizing marijuana.
