Here I was, picking Pan. Cinctulus, I look up and see these fucking things.
They are of varying size, 4-5ft and there's tiny little ones who are in head stage.

They are in one of those shared-garden-public-type gardens. I actually just realised, all the mud/gravel type in those complexs are obviously PERFECT for poppies!!! Ugh... I'm salviating and fiending.... I've always wanted to try smoked opium!!! :frown:
They are public scenery gardens tended by the local council. Do the healthness of them tell you people someone is actually tending for them? It's a rough area. I wonder if someone like us are deliberately growing for narcotics or a gardener is unawares growing them. I'm not sure if people would be allowed (to touch the gardens).

How long will most take to reach full maturity? Few more weeks? 5-10 days after they flower? Argh.... I'm just over a Poppy pod tea addiction, 3 weeks last used.... didn't want to find them haha. Say my cat acciddently cut them when ready, would it matter if done at night or day or is it only day?

Lots of people just grow poppies for their beauty, and not to obtain opium, which I believe is what's happening in your case:-)They can be found all over people's local gardens in this town, and they are legal to grow for that purpose:-)

It's usually always Orientales I see, haha.

Fuck fuck fuck. I am so tempted to take a walk around everywhere, have a look in all the gardens.
Now that I think about it, Scotland seems pretty good for poppies, never too hot or dry, or too wet, ground is usually always damp.

Will those tiny poppy heads grow into the bigger ones? Are they that way cause lack of nutrients or whatever?

I went out for a look. Heart missed a beat when I seen massive poppies but they turned out to be really tall inactive poppies :frown: no somniferum!! Eventually got distracted by mushrooms and gave up on poppies!

for the most part i feel like it's easy to tell which pods have yet to swell by the size of the crown in relation to the rest of the pod.

I see. Cheers.

These somni probably arent going to get very big, right? Golfball size max? Ready for cutting when crown aims up?

The process takes about two weeks after the petals fall off. Sometimes,  even longer and I generally measure its width (leaf, and also height of the stem) to determine if the plant is sufficiently healthy enough to produce a delightful amount of opiate alkaloids.

lack of sun will slow their growth right?

atm, the heads are so fucking small, the crowns are even bigger, about golfball width. if they all get to golfball size, is it even worth trying to cut them?

IME, lack of sun will slow the process and the potency. Wait awhile until the pod swells and becomes bigger than the crown, because it should otherwise leave it...it's not worth the effort.

They are starting to swell now! Been 3 days since I last checked and there was a couple that were a surprising big size!

Are wild Somniferum well established in Scotland?

edit:

i found another garden of em! this one is smaller and they are in pre-flower stage.
