How the hell do you get popcorn to colonize in a week?!
    #1644932 - 06/19/03 01:27 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

Hey there... I recently conducted a popcorn experiment. I soaked it for 1 day, microwaved it with some water for 20 mins to heat it up and let those endo's germinate, let it sit another day... boiled it for 45mins then drained and PC'ed it for about 60mins. I innoculated it with Equadorian spores, shook it up really nicely and incubated it at 84f. It's been well over a week, and the jars aren't colonized near 100%. They're not stalled, they are still colonizing fast enough so i won't throw them out or anything, but i don't understand how to get popcorn to colonize faster. I followed the TEK, the kernels were nice and squishy... what did i do wrong?

up the temp ...my iguana has had grain to grains happen to 100% in less than a week @87*f ....and shaking at 15% and 80% colonization helps also.

I see.... I'll up that shit a little bit then. I heard that grain is supposed to have more air circulation.... does tyvek circulate enough? I like tyvek filter discs because of their availability and simplicity. Also... what do you recomend to cook your popcorn? I have heard various things?

Try doing g2g transfers instead of multispore innoculations if you really want to speed things up.

Yeah. I actually just started growing a month ago, and i haven't even gotten my first mushrooms yet, so i am going to wait on the more advanced stuff (g2g transfers, cloning, agar culture etc.). I have done a whole lot of the other more simple techniques though (PF TEK, WBS, Popcorn, Honey TEK, Malt TEK, Mycelium innoculation). I will look ionto G2G transfers and start using just tyvek + the band instead of a lid.

I am using tyvek filter patches... i made two pint jars with just tyvek/jar bands holding them on. I'll try that and see how well it works.

the popcorn threads which were experimental are open, if you need questions answered regarding ordinary cubensis cultivation, please post them in mushroom cultivation. I am closing this thread.
