Silence and Zen
    #1635862 - 06/15/03 08:42 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

I havn't been making any posts in this forum like I used to on the old message board. But right now what seems to be on my mind is about silence. Whenever I am around friends especially if we smoke a join, I seem to be silent. My friends will talk and talk or try to explain their experiences on psychedelics. I feel alone though, because I find it hard to get involved in conversations. I used to talk a lot about my spiritual experiences. But overtime, I realise that most enlightening experiences are best explained with silence. I would rather sit in silence and enjoy life than talk. It makes me feel very alone and different. But I feel like instead of talking about the experiences I have, in order to go further into the mystery of life, I have to be silent to learn more. I have been meditating a lot more and I havn't done psychedelics for a long time. But sometimes it feels if when people are talking about the experience, I almost feel kind of detatched from sharing things, because it seems like rambling. The scope of experiences one can have from psychedelics or meditation is so great, that I find there isn't much point in talking about it, unless it is discussed scientifically or in a way that give thoughts to further the spiritual adventure. I would rather sit in silence and enjoy the moment instead of discussing repetative things like I used to do. I hope this makes sense to you guys.

makes sense to me... i'm very much the same way.

i've started meditating out of necessity...
i was sitting around last night smoking weed, not wanting to do anything, not tired enough to sleep, not motivated enough to do music or paint, TV sucked and i was tired of listening to mp3s, so i thought of meditating and it just felt like the perfect thing to do. it was great, i'm going to do it again tonight.

Silence is very powerful.

There was a good article called "Surrendering to Silence" in the June issue of Yoga Journal, but I can't seem to find my copy of it. If I do, though, I will type it up in this thread cuz it was a really good read.

Peace,

RebelSteve

i feel that man,
i went through the same kind of thing after i started meditating for a while, my mindset changed, friends asked me why i was so quiet all of a sudden, i thought about it, and i said, i have nothing to say. instead of spewing off verbal diahrea, i like to just observe and enjoy. i used to be very outgoing...but now ive come to think of silence as a great mindset.

MIA
Uncomfortable silences. Why do we
feel it's necessary to yak about
bullshit in order to be
comfortable?

VINCENT
I don't know.

MIA
That's when you know you found
somebody special. When you can
just shut the fuck up for a minute,
and comfortably share silence.

Edit: Did no one get this?

I know EXACTLY what you mean.  :smirk:

What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?

Well, people are different. For example I find to be kinda quiet when "I'm on the other side". Some of my friends become very talkative. I also noticed that I can't concentrate on stupid things like TV. Once, I was with some guys, we smoked some bowls, and they were watching some stupid ass movie on TV. I couldn't understand a thing that happened in that movie. I had my own "movie".

I feel you, i believe there are times when you should just be in Silence. and i also believe there is a time to talk or discuss things....There is mostly a time for everything. Just most people don't seem to have the consepct of when to use there time wisely

Great post Earth Droid. By silence i assume you mean alone because there is no such thing as silence. Everyone is gonna die alone no matter if there are people around or not, scary thought. spend alot of time alone, or better yet, use your alone time to your highest adavantage, ponder this death thing until you feel you have gained a more comfortable view on it, you might find more space to chat with your friends about physcadelics that way, meaning you will enjoy talking with them, not feel you have an obligation to, good luck, peace>
