Casig Question: grey mycelium and overlay

This kid i kind of sort of know got his first casing out of the incubator, it wasn't really colonized.. and the thing took off like a mother fucker as soon as it was uncovered. In one day literally all the growth that is in the picture appeared. Lipa Yai's are very agressive i guess. Anyways, i have a few questions about it. My first question is.... why is the mycelium grey now? I know its not a contam because i poked into one part of my casing, and the fuzz is only coming from the crumbled cakes. When i first saw the mycelium poking out it was nice and white, then i faned it off (i use a relatively powerful muffin fan) and it turned grey... i think its brusing but i was interested in what your perspective was. My other question is, should i patch case this? I woud assume so but i don't want to hurt the mycelium, its growing almost 1/2" off the casing aerially so i woud have to mash it down to patch case it Please gimme some feedback i am confused =(.

But it started out nice and white.... it was only after i fanned it that it became grey, couldn't it have gotten bruised? I really hope thats what it is because i have been waiting on that casing for a while =(.

On another note how long does it take mycelium to unbruise? My friend could stop fanning for a day or so and see what happens.

bruising is usually blue and does not get big and fuzzy as cob web is grey and gets very fuzzy very fast ............ try not fanning for a day ? just stated what it sounds like

Sorry -- that looks pretty bad. BTW -- cobweb usually means it's too humid. -- Micro

If you were to notice it early enough, it might have been possible to remove the contaminated area, but it looks like it's beyond repair. You could still try scraping it away, but I'm sure you'll notice the contamination is also deep.
Learn from your mistakes and better luck next time. My condolences.

Does Cobweb colonize the soil? Because i lifted my casing out of the pan a little bit, and noticed that the white/grey stuff goes all the way down into my casing. Also, the stuff that is below the surface of my casing is white and not grey, which would support the myceliu/bruising theory, maybe the cobweb has just penetrated deeply into th casing though, i don't know. I will just watch and wait for a day and see if it turns white again.

looks like cobweb mold to me. try scraping it an dgiving it a good spray with h20/h2o2 but it looks like it is doomed to me. Casings only need 80-85% humidity.

If the infection started from the bottom and worked its way up it likely got hold of some uncolonized substrate. Prolly high humidity, too. -- Micro

Treat the casing by DRENCHING it with a 1% bleach solution and refrigerating in a sealed container for 24 hours.
After its bleach dip, flip the entire casing over on a the bottom of a baking dish (sterilize dish by baking at 350 for 30 min. or so) so that the top of the casing is now on the bottom surface of the dish. Cover the dish loosely with saran and prop up one end to allow for drainage of excess moisture to one side/end of the dish. Pour off excess and re-cover with saran.
Good luck.

My friend scraped off all the cobweb, then saturated in hydrogen peroxide solution (wasn't so sure about the bleach), then cased with some course ass verm, he'll post some updates on how it's doing.

(wasn't so sure about the bleach)
Scraping off cobweb and spraying with h2o2 won't do shit.
Bleach it or throw it out. Try a %0.5 solun. of bleach if you are worried about it.

Thanks big johnson.... I'll probably throw this shit out. Can cobweb metabolize Hydrogen Perodide like mushroom mycelium can? And can mushroom mycelium metabolize bleach?
