I guess it would make a good casing, vermicompost in autoclavable bags, PC, then just sprinkle right about on everything, when teks call for casing?
am I right on this?
thanks.

No, casing layers are not supposed to have any nutritional value.

People have used ewc's in their bulk substrates in the past with good results. Don't use the term "casing" for a cased bulk substrate. A "casing" is a non-nutritious layer of material you place on top of your bulk substrate to help create a good microclimate for pin formation. It should NOT be used as a term to describe a cased or bulk substrate as a whole.

so is coco coir not to be used as a 'casing'? its quite 'nutritious' especially for mushies..
verm is pretty much out of the picture for me, its rare in here and if you actually find some(especially online), they cost much too much.
give it a go nastos, i'd like to see how it goes..
since i will be vermiculturing really soon, it would be a big help right, thanks.

Coir usage in a casing layer depends on how aggressive the strain being grown is. Pan. Cyans. generally need coir as you want them to get a good strong hold on the casing layer. Cubes can run through a coir mixed casing and defeat the purpose. Its just a matter of feel and experience with your current strain.
Personally for cubes, I run 50/50 peat/verm with some gypsum and maybe a touch of calcium hydroxide to balance PH. Don't play with calcium hydroxide blindly, as it's very powerful stuff.
I'm not entirely sure what the OP is asking though. Does he want to spawn to a bulk substrate of vermicompost? Or is he actually talking about casing a bulk sub?
