Going to the Sensory Deprivation Tank

I'm going for a 90 minute session in a sensory deprivation tank on Wednesday. I'm pretty nervous. Any tips? Besides let go? I often times have trouble with that. Has anybody been in one before?

I've done it once, and I plan to do it again in the near future. 90 minutes is a perfect amount of time, as it may take a good while to turn your brain off. After that though it's smooth sailing.
Use one of these breathing methods and it'll help you clear your mind. http://www.newfrontier.com/nepal/pranayama.htm

Thanks for the link, and happy birthday! Is there any one of those in particular that have worked for you? I have worked with ujaya-prana breath before (can't spell it) in yoga, so maybe I'll use that one as I'm familiar with it. Was the tank anxiety provoking at all? I'm really excited.

Lilly was quite a character lol. Methinks, at some point in time, at least one ape loose in the city was really Dr. Lilly in simian form terrorizing the town....ala William Hurts character in altered states.

relax. There is not much to it. I work at a sensory deprivation facility. Just clear your mind, relax and go with it as much as possible.

No tips, just posting to say that I'm jelly. I have been unable to find anywhere that has sensory deprivation tanks around here.

It's 45 dollars for 90 minutes at the one here, not too terrible.
I'm very excited, I think it's going to be great.

I would highly suggest doing it at least 2 times no matter the outcome of the first go.
The first time through is spent getting the body to understand the mechanics of the buoyant liquid, learning not to use neck muscles for anything, and finding out where your body centers.
On top of that getting your mind to relax with no stimulation to keep it busy whatsoever.
If you are not a daily meditator, expect a entourage of thoughts, notions, and general noise. and it all seems to get turned up really loud.
Stretch before you hop in. as much as you can. Don't shave anything within 6 hours. Don't have caffeine within a few hours. and don't eat a big meal right before, or be starving.

The record for sitting in the worlds quietest room is only 45mins, So what do you hear in a deprivation tank? It cant be that quiet if you can sit in there for 90mins or so...........

Water sloshes, breathing, heart beat. That is all really.
My friend who has been floating since the 70's has done up to 14 hours in a tank. he only had to get out to use the bathroom.

Heading out in an hour or two. The biggest thing I'm worried about is I have probably 10 little cuts all over me. I was going to reschedule but then I realized that I always have little cuts all over me (from god knows what) and I'm just planning on my pain neurons desensitizing after 10 minutes or so. I hope I'm right, otherwise it's 45 bucks down the drain.

We offer petroleum jelly at my work for such things. if not, it DOES sting like a bitch if they are less than 6 hours old.
