Here are some mushrooms I found last September. They were growing on a log, down by the river. They sorta look similiar to the mushies R.James posted earlier. These mushrooms had purple-brown spores. I have more pics, but they'll have to wait. These were the only ones of this species that I found that had turned this white looking. Found in the Southeastern USA. doo

I don't know what they are. I'm sure it's possible, if they are positively P.caerulipes, that they could grow in Ohio. these were found in NC.

I don't know if these mushrooms are magic or not. That's why I've posted the pics, to see if anyone here may have any ideas on what they may be. These are small mushrooms and they were fairly old specimens (except for one).They were also full of bugs. Even if they were active, this small amount would probably not be enough to do anything ( unless they were some new super-duper potent species ). doo

The spore print seems to point towards an active species. Was there any bruising?

If you want a + ID we need more info. Closer pics with detail, bluing reaction at base, pic of spores, whatever, just something more. It has a much darker stem than most psilos I've seen and the gills don't seem right but the pics are blury. I don't think so, but who knows, definitely has the cap shape. Was there apparent bruising on the mycelium? Growing in the general vicinity? My guess is you're SOL but who knows give it some time and wait for more responses.

I have some more pics ( plenty actually) of some similiar mushrooms that were growing nearby, but I'm maxxed out for today. I posted these pics because of their whitish color, but the majority of the others didn't turn this white. I'll give a better description in my next post (with pics). These are probably the same species of mushroom that I've been trying to ID for the last 2 years, with no luck.

Paid is right, the spore print definitely leads me to believe it is active but this is based off your observation, and no offense or anything, I think this could possibly be a bit biassed, or maybe optimistic at best, which is never really the right attitude to have when looking for an accurate ID. It does have some accurate characteristics of psilos but I can also see things which just don't match up at all. There could be a strong chance this is do to species differences but I have dealt with a bit more than P.C. and I'm not too sure on this. Again, I would wait for others to give their .02 but in my opinion I want more info. that's all. Give me a close up when you can upload again. I hope you're right. You could have a great time off that. Good luck - @cro

HI Doo, I do not think that those are P. carerulipes. The darker brown mushrooms in the image are not the color of P. caerulipes and the nipple on them is to pronounced for P. caerulipes.
Adn yes to the person who posted about OHIO. P. caerulipes, I posted an image inthe other forum on the discovery of P. caerulipes in West Virginia, has been collected in Cinncinati, Ohio.

@CRO,
A spore print does not indicate that the mushroom is active. There ae other genera with chocolate to purple-brown sproe prints besides Psilocybe. That could also be Stropharias, Agaricus, Namatoloma.
All turn chocolate to purple-brown.

And MJ, yeah, you're right but it still does help quite a bit for LBM's and I think I was just rambling off things that could help anyways.

Gumbydude to the rescue.......... How ya been doing?
@cro, I've been gone from the boards for about a year. No computer. But I didn't quit mushroom hunting.........hehehe...., those pics are from 2002. I've got a seasons worth of photos to post of these and of some similiar purple-brown spored species. As for any bluing, no "definite" bluing was observed on these specimens, although the older mushie in the 3rd pic (on the left, in the background) had sort of a bluish to greenish cast to it. The stems were nearly black ( I think from age and/or wet weather), where with some of the others I've found ( not pictured) the stems were a much lighter color. Hopefully I'll get to post some picsof those later on today.
