Ok,
So just yesterday, I started learning about computer code and all that jazz. It's really exciting!! So anywho... as a test of what I have gathered so far I made a hidden message with a couple layers of depth. Anyone want to try and break it? Its SO simple that I'm probably gonna get laughed at but hey, I'm learning. So anywho here it is for anyone who wants to give it a shot. Then everyone can share thier neat code tricks with me!!

It starts to repeat half way down.
The pattern goes, the first two digits are taken from the fron of the line, and put on the end and then the line repeats.

You got the first part shizno! Congrats! Along with the "Off to a good start! Keep going!" message you get the second part of the code which is encoded using another very widely used coding. So im sure that everyone who has seen this knows that the first part is in binary. If you were to copy my big block of code, and paste it into a translator, you would have to remove the spaces that were put in when I tried to make the code all fit onto one screen. If you use the code thats all written in the big long line (you have some scrolling to do) it would be alot clener in a translator.

Ill check back occasionally to see if anyones boredom got the best of them and broke it down the rest of the way.

to expand a bit on what matts said, if you are looking for encryption methods, a nice simple place to start off would be the xor operation.

xor works likes this, when you compare two bits, you return a 1 if one of them is 0 and one is 1, other wise you return a 0. (i hope this lines up at least a little for you)

thus,

1011 0010 1001 1001 xor
1010 0100 0010 0101
--------------------------
0001 0110 1011 1100

now the beauty of this is that if you xor it by the same series of bits again, you get the original number....

1010 0100 0010 0101 xor
0001 0110 1011 1100
--------------------------
1011 0010 1001 1001

so lets say you have the string:

"String"

S t r i n g
53h 74h 72h 69h 6Eh 47h

and lets say we take any ole number to encrypt it... lets say the letter 'A' (41h).

53h xor 41h = 12h
74h xor 41h = 35h
72h xor 41h = 33h
69h xor 41h = 28h
6Eh xor 41h = 2Fh
47h xor 41h = 06h

which leaves the string ^R53(/^F (the ^ followed by a letter meaning, control-letter, these are characters that can't be shown, not two characters, just making sure ya know). Now if you xor this string by 41h again, you get your original text. Now if you wanted you could (instead of using a single value) cycle through a second string filled with values.

Now of course this would again just be a starting point. It would confuse the shit out of your neighbor and the average guy on the street (hell probably most comp sci teachers), but anyone with a little knowledge could snap this type of encryption on a good calculator. If you are really interested in the subject, I'd say learn all the binary math you can (hell all the math in general) and pick up a copy of Applied Cryptography, I'm guessing it's still the best introductory work on the subject and well worth the $42 it's going for on amazon.com.
