Scored a Job on the Boundary Waters, MN!
    #16014645 - 03/29/12 04:45 PM (12 years, 1 day ago)

It's official. I have my first job with a real wilderness outfitter  I am so fucking stoked about it I can't quit smiling. A full summer in the wild :tongue2: If all goes well I'll either stay up there for a while or continue heading west. First I gotta get the pooch accustomed to riding in a canoe lol Gonna go rent one tomorrow and take her out.

Wow, man congrats! very jealous...

What kind of things will you be doing? The boreal forests and northern hardwood forests will be a big change from the NC mountains - you will love it.

I'm going to be taking clients on canoeing expeditions for 7-10 days at a time through the Boy Scouts of America. I'll live on their base which is on Moose Lake just a short drive from Ely. I did a 10 day expedition back in 07' and have wanted to go back ever since.

I just moved to the Minneapolis metropolis area from Southern California...  the fishing is great out here!  Not a big fan of all the ponds they refer to as 'lakes'  hahaha, but there are a few rivers I've found...

Nice. Boyscout camps are fun to work at. I worked at one for two years in a row a while back. Good times. Hopefully your camp has a good cook this summer. Sometimes those boyscout camps have the worst fucking food. Have fun there mang.

It's all gonna be trail food anyway, but I'm no stranger to that. I've been eating trail food for so long I eat clif bars as snacks lol

Oh, in that case just remember that even though cliff bars are yummy you still need a full meal when out in the wild :hi5:

No doubt. Trust me, I've spent probably 1/3 of my life in the woods

I definitely will. I'm about 50 bucks away from a new camera. Shock proof, waterproof, altitude proof... doesn't claim to be drunk proof, but I have high hopes that it is

I worked a few years at Camp Wakpominee in NY as a lifeguard.  I am an Eagle Scout from 1996.

I remember my wilderness survival MB, we went to Dempsey Point in the middle of a thunderstorm.  Trees were falling all around us, and my buddy Dan and I were the only ones who didn't high tail it back to the camp.  our shelter was the shit.

We're you ever into the Order of the Arrow?  I made Brotherhood, went to the conclave in Indiana in 94 or 95... cant remember...

I made ordeal, but didn't go any further. I did go to Philmont while in the troop and went to Northern Tier as a "guest" with my troop since I had already been awarded Eagle.

I've been to the boundary waters a few times.

led several trips to the quetico.

It's a great place.  Lots of portaging though.

Big fire up there last year.  should be interesting this summer.

I'll be up there in early July.  We always try to fuck with the boy scouts we see.  Nothing too mean,  they're just such an easy target.

Do they still have one of the mothers drive ahead with supplies?  (gas to start the bonfire?)
