john prine is another great lyricist

chorus of "illegal smile":

... But fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun

"Sam Stone" is another favorite and "Angel From Montgomery"

John Prine is one of the best and most unique songwriters around. I mean, how do you come up with lyrics like;
"There's a rainbow of baby's draped over a graveyard" (from He Was In Heaven Before He Died). I first heard that line and I thought "what the hell is he talking about". Then it hit me,he's talking about those cherubs you see on the archways to the entrance to a graveyard. He's a master.
"Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore" and "Let's Talk Dirty In Hawaiin" are a couple of my favorites.
Hell, I love all his songs. :grin:
