Question about Coir as substrate for Lionsmane cultivation.
    #15890056 - 03/02/12 11:39 AM (12 years, 19 days ago)

Hi everyone,

Well, I'm having a heck of a time finding sawdust that I need for substrate of my Lionsmane culture and have seen several small bits of info about Coir being used as a main medium for lionsmane, but can't find very much info specifics. I have a huge ammount of coir sitting in the garage just waiting to be used. I'm thinking that I'll colonize onto rye grain spawn, and transfer to coir? am I way off? Never tried to play with the Lionsmane before.

I would very much appreciate if someone could steer me in the right direction or lay down some good info about preperation, mixes, and whatnot for use in spawnbags.

Well, I used sawdust, but I bet that LM will colonize coir fine.

Using rye berries for the spawn is fine.

Good luck,

JD

Man I hope so.

Other than that I just dont know what I'll do with all of that coir. I did actually find a good deal on oak sawdust pellets right after I posted, but I still want to use up what I have.

Any tips are very appreciated!

I tried coir and didn't have the best success with it. I would shoot for the saw dust.

Ok. Cool. I will take your advice guys, and fiddle with the coir and mixes containing it on the side.

Thank you for your input!
