~The Official Terence Mckenna appreciation thread~ * 4
    #15815157 - 02/15/12 06:59 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

First off let me start off by saying Terence Mckenna was an intelligent and inspirational individual and I can say his work has changed my life a bit. Has T. Mckenna inspired you in any way?
What are some of your favorite and most inspirational T. Mckenna quotes?
my favorite has to be from "Molecular Superstructure" by Shpongle..I dont know why but these words have helped get me out of many ruts in my life recently.
"We are like caterpillars contemplating pupation.
No longer will i chew on the cabbage leaves, no longer will i spend my time on the underside of the foliage.
Life must be a transition to another dimension."
Idk, i just really love this quote. Just motivates me whenever i feel like theres no point in going to school and shit.
Any Mckenna Desciples out there?
Ive read a few of his books and listened to countless hours of lectures, such an interesting guy.

Yeah, he had a great poetic way of speaking, he could make you believe almost anything when presented in such a voice.

he had some very good ideas aswell..

he pretty much helped me map out the tryptamine universe when i first started dabbling with mushrooms and DMT.

i do think its important for one to discover their own conclusions about the experience.. he is just speculating the many possiblities that he can think of..

He's got good advice on the navigation of the experience aswell :P

good man

p.s. the quote i like was something he paraphrased..

"The highest mountains, the widest deserts, the oldest books, there you will find the stone" ..

that really made me smile

I am a huge fan of Terence McKenna. My favorite way to get his information is from the podcast The Psychedelic Salon. Between that, Youtube videos, The Genesis Generation, and his books, I can get more than my fill of McKenna (which is quite a lot, I love listening to him).

Terence Mckenna definitely came to me at the right time, right at the time i was getting into taking mushrooms.

Both have been a factor in my growth, as well as perception.

I'm a bit of a Terrence junkie. I have an archive of most all of his lectures and videos. I've met people who've known him, spoke online briefly with his daughter, analyzed his ideas in my thesis, etc. He's been a huge guiding force in my life.

Terence was also king of contradictions. He once said people mistakenly believe, "the older the book the more true it must be," in negative reference to religious scriptures.

When I was 13 I ate mushrooms and had never heard of Terence Mckenna. I remember now, having listened to him a bunch, a vague sense of deja vu from my first trip, as if he was sort of communicating with me in my mushroom trip. The mushrooms looked like Penis Envys and were consumed in February/March of 2003, just a couple years after his death, when he might still have been hanging out in purgatory (or maybe still is- he was raised catholic ya know?). Terence Mckenna provided the Amazon strain to Stephen Pollock, an old school grower who died back in 1980 and whose associates I later came into close relations with. Dr. Pollock mutated the Amazon strain into the Penis Envy strain that I ate that night, and it was only by divine grace that that Penis Envy strain is still in existence, but that's a whole other topic.

Anyways, the point is that I felt a divine connection to Terence that night 9 years ago when I first met the mushroom.

Terrence McKenna was indeed a cool dude. I never knew him, but I knew he liked to Drop out and Tune Out.

I have a question for you, are these 2 quotes from Terrence McKenna?

Like the Universe sitting on your face, Plugged into Gaia's Brain, in a Wyrd dripping Cavernous Labyrinth.
Following the String of Semi-Madness, Brain Gymnastics, Sonic Elastics, Frying the Mind Circuits.

Seratone, Pleasure Zone, into the Overtone,
Experimental, Elemental, X-tra Terrestrial Festival.

Nope.

That's on the inside sleeve of a Shpongle album.

Though Shpongle itself is basically McKenna passing gas through a megaphone.

He also said never to read any book less than 100 years old, or you wouldn't learn anything. I paraphrase but that was the meat of it.

I love McKenna, whether you like his ideas or not, his wealth of knowledge and method of conveying that were astounding.

I think he earned the moniker of "The Bard" that was bestowed upon him.

Yet he ironically wrote new books!

That's what I'm saying, he was deliberately contradictory, as any good bard is.

Among other things, his aim was to catalyze personally experience and critical thinking - rather than to replace one ideology with another.

Yes, I think anyone who takes him too literally may run into problems.

To me he was just a font of ideas and hypothesising, seemed to revel in the act of learning, whether or not those lessons were to be heeded or not in future.

I have yet to encounter another writer with his vocabulary either, he draws on so many resources and so many subjects.

Got a total of 25GB of Terence Mckenna stuff stored on my PC/Harddrive/back up PC.

I was so fond of his jokes he'd come up with during his lectures;

"And that's part of the ambiguity you're all supposed to enjoy in this, me preaching the loss of ego."
