Anxious little pins
    #1568249 - 05/22/03 02:30 AM (20 years, 10 months ago)

I know someone who has some creeper cakes that are fully colonized and have been pinning inside their jars. When he births the cakes, should he be expecting those pins to mature into fully developed fruit bodies? Or should they be picked as abhorts?

Will they grow if left on the cakes? If they have little chance of growing more after birth he'll just eat um instead of letting them get rotten.

They will grow as long as they haven't aborted. Aborted pins will have darker than normal caps. IMO it is best to fruit them sooner than later.

if u can get them to grow, kudos to u, junebug as never been able to successfully remove the cake from the jar w/o ending the careers of ne pins that had already formed, cuz there all pressed up against the glass, and hes gotta whap them down onto a phone book to get the cakes loose, but i never hear ne body else say this and they r always acting as if they just cut the jars away from the cakes or make them magically disappear or somethin, im pretty sure junebug would be interested in this trick if theres somethin hes missing, let me know....................u could let them grow invitro since they already there, cuz they will keep growin in the jar, then when they r big, birth the cakes , pic and njoy
