King and Pink Oysters on Agar, documenting from plates to fruit 1

Getting started in our lab, going with Kings and Pinks to start out. We tried a few different agar recipes, dog food agar, malt yeast, and a few other concoctions. Over 200 plates so far.
The pinks grew out fast as hell on the initial plates, here are plates we cut up from the colonized dish and put it into new medium, and these are moving fast.
Will keep adding as we progress. Big plans ahead for us and lots of growing.
By the way, HELLO! Very long time lurker, finally posting.

great agar project. but i would stack them all up into some sort of order just cause that really take up a tonn of space.
much love keep us updated

That's a lot of plates, I assume this is the prelude to a commercial set up. With about 8 grain masters for each plate expanding to 8 x 4kg bags of G2 expanding to 10 bags of G3 spawn per G1, that's 64 Tons of grain spawn worth ... I hope you have a big pressure cooker!
Can I ask you about the reasoning behind the chosen products, at first glance it seems an odd combination as they are at opposite ends of fruiting temperature, shelf life and taste...

Well, these are only actually 2 of the 6 strains we have going right now to be honest. Pics from the others will come soon. And currently we have six 41.5qt steroclaves we are using.

Interesting! - Sounds like a good size set up. Going to grow mushrooms or just produce spawn? - Tell us more about the plans please!

After wrapping with parafilm, I'd suggest placing each dish in its own ziploc bag which you inflate with the flowhood. This gives an extra measure of protection for the mycelium, plus it keeps any contaminants which develop contained to the one dish. RR

Appreciate the advice Roger! You were actually the one who inspired us years ago at a different venue. Your teks and unselfish sharing of information has changed not only my life but many others as well.
Our fist grain masters for King Oysters:
Dropped a few hits from a syringe of shittake to a few plates, little bit of something going on here, not sure what yet:
Tonight another 25lbs of PC'd rye will be fed some more agar wedges.

Stacking the petri's has no detrimental effect on growth and you could save alot of space by doing so. IMO, I like the ziploc bag idea for labs that are not positively pressurized with HEPA filtered air, but i think doing both would be a little overkill. With a positively pressurized HEPA filter air system, parafilm is the extra measure of protection, because they grow fine with no parafilm also in this scenario.

Grain masters almost colonized, more pics coming this evening on progress.
These kings really like the dog food agar and ripped right through every plate we made for them.
The pink agar transfers have these plates about finished as well.
Sneak peek into one of our labs-
Just for fun, thought I would show our framed art that sits right outside our lab rooms, a gnome with a mushroom, and a nice blacklight poster titled Mushroom Factory.

Brief update:
Picture doesnt do it much justice, but the edges of the pink plates are starting to cluster up, lots of plates are ready for grain.
Working with some liquid culture on the stirrer for a small experiment.

Couple plates of pinks decided they wanted out
30 more pounds of pink grain filled with agar wedges:
More agar on deck
Out with the old, in with the new:
About the amount of grain used in bags: We are going by weight for each of these, as these are not the bags we intend to use full term, plus we are pretty anal about getting anywhere near the filter. Call it playing it safe from all directions.
About our plans, intentions, etc. Keeping a lid on it for now, will share at a later date.
