If you put them in the fridge, an extremely long time -- prolly around 6 months to a year, maybe even longer in some cases.

look into culture storage, slants have been known to be stored as long as 20 years and still remained viable.

I made sure to re-read TMC concerning agar and long term cold storage - using slats, in a test tube with cotton, etc.. before posting my question...

I don't really plan on keeping a sporebank as extensive as stamets or mj - i'd just like to keep an innoculated petri for 1 - 1 1/2 yrs...

from what I gather, thats pretty possible. so much thanks to all..
___

here is another really Newbee question - still with agar.. ok, lets say you have 1 mycobag (regardless of substrate).. 1 empty syringe .. 1 agar petri dish with psilocybe mycelium you want to introduce into the mycobag... how the hell do you do it?... cut off a chunk agar, melt it somehow, suck it up in the syringe and inject in the bag??.. (if I looked hard enough I could probably solve my own question.. but I'll be lazy tonight)

You can just throw an agar wedge into the bag (if it's not pre-sealed and you do it sterilly) or STERILLY put some sterile water (more than you'll need in the syringe) into the petri and scrape the mycelium with a sterile scalple or other tool into the water and then put it into the syringe. You could also use an inoculating loop to inoculate some liquid culture (6T or dextrose water or PDY or whatever) with the mycelium on the petrie.

This all should be done in a glovebox or flow hood.

Side-note: if using an agar wedge you should shake the bag with it in it afterward (after the bag is completely sealed.)
