OK! My O-chem is a bit rusty, but here goes. N-butanol is not the same as any of the other alcohols, but the ACS thing is just stating a grade of n-butanol. What do you plan of using it for, anyways? Ethanol is ethyl alcohol. Denatured means that there is something added so you can't drink it without getting *really* sick. ( Buy a bottle of 190 proof booze if you can! ) Anhydrous means that the water has been taken out by some process other than distillation; adding chems that get the water out. Distilling will not get the ethanoll concentration higher than 95%. If you are going to use the ethanol to sterilize things, it should be diluted to about 70% ethanol and 30% water. The bottom flask is a filter flask, but you also need a Buchner funnel or some other funnel that will make a tight seal around the top of the flask. You will still need the filter paper, tho.

You will also need an aspirator or something else to lower the partial pressure inside the flask. A tube is run from the nipple on the flask to the aspirator.

Is n-Butanol the same as: iso-Amyl Alcohol? n-Butyl Alcohol, ACS? sec-Butyl Alcohol, Reagent? tert-Butyl, Alcohol, Reagent
Not even close with the isoamyl-oh -- this is 3-Methyl-1-butanol
The rest are isomers; depends on where the hydroxy group (or methanes) are attached.
Denatured = can't drink it (has other types of alcohol in it.) NON - Denatured ethanol = can drink it (if diluted) Anhydrous = without water
You can use that as a filter if you stick a filter in it; even better if a vacuum is sucking through the other hole (if it doesn't break the filter)
Methanol is methanol; you can't drink it, anyway. It will evaporate. It's the best reagent for psilocybin extraction.
ACS = American Chemical Society (lowest standards) Reagent = Just a bit better, I think, but haven't had any proof USP = US Pharmacopia (food and drug use)

Vinegar is acetic acid, acetone is a solvent that eats many types of plastic and lipids (fats). Not similar at all! 190 proof alcohol you might find in a liquor store: Everclear, grain alcohol. There are other brands, but it is illegal where I live and I forget the names. If you don't mind my saying so, you may have a bit of trouble doing this extraction if you haven't had much chemistry in your life. You could certainly learn, tho! Just about everything mentioned in this thread will burn easily--be careful!
