What grows well on walnut?
    #15353640 - 11/11/11 01:02 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I just acquired a giant bag of walnut sawdust (Western black I believe) and am wondering if anyone has experienced a particular species growing particularly well on it.  I would ideally like to make spawn for inoculating logs with.

Walnut doesn't grow in my area so I have no direct experience, but walnut is generally considered a poor choice for mushroom growing.

You're better off with Oak, if you can swing it. I tried some Black Walnut as an experiment with Oyster Mushrooms. It was less than ideal in comparison. Perhaps Lions Mane or Shitake. (?)
