Grey Tricholoma's
    #15345750 - 11/09/11 05:06 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Would like to start a quick thread on the grey Tricholoma's and how to tell em' apart. Here's why I'm curious.

Last Fall I went on a foray with local myco. society and we found what were locally referred to as mouse mushrooms, or Tricholoma Myomyces. The first question I always ask when learning a new edible is what it can be confused with and was met with some laughter and , "nothing really, it'd be like confusing a Honey with a Galerina".... if it looks furry and grey (with the other characteristics of a Tricholoma) you're good to go. Well, my literature as well as everything thing else I've seen would seem to disagree.... I never managed a late fall foray this year with the group and never got to inquire again.

So I understand the only one I'm worrying about it pardinum (correct?), but how do you tell it and myomyces apart, or can you? Pardinum is not common here (from looking at 6 years of foray reports, but it does occur) I realize there might not be a straight-forward answer but I'd like to see how some of our TI's might make the decision themselves.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to sound like a dumb-ass, but I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying, this is a tough species and thats a good location to have an ID confirmed?
