Why fuck around?

This may be a stupid question, but why fuck around with boiling/PC-ing PF jars? Is there a reason why the microwave wouldn't work (ok, besides the metal lids frying your microwave)?

It would dry out your substrate, by boiling the water out of it.

Hmm, and how's this different from microwaving glad/ziploc containers...that seems to be done commonly.

Can you make a chocolate cake on a microwave ?
Substrate has got to cook for sometime, that's another idea behind PCing in PF Tek, it creates a favorable texture and a distributed water content through the whole substrate. Besides, the fungi likes it that way....
