I went on a morel hunt with a group of 12 people.
The date has been set 1 month before the hunt, and unfortunately there was absolutely no rain 2 weeks before we went.
Thus the result: 12 people, a 2 hours hunt yielded 4 morels :smirk:

Nevertheless, they were nice, here a couple of them:

And the woods where we found them, although we didn?t find them exactly under the ferns, but they were neat so I?m bringing this photo.

poke smot! - there are a lot of people who generate income by picking morels (or other mushrooms). Let's pick a number out of the air (say, $10 per pound) and say you can get that much for them. The next time you go out and pick mushrooms, select some species you need to get for that money and see how much you get. With a really good year you can make quite a bit of money for a couple weeks, but picking a lot of mushrooms (you probably need at least 10 pounds a day to do OK with the price guess above) is hard work. Ask yourself when the last time you picked 10 pounds of mushrooms (all one species) in one day was and ask yourself if you could do it every day for a few weeks.

If the mushrooms are coming up that thick in your area, hey go for it. And good luck.

MMMMM could this lack of morels be behind the decline of western civilization?It certainly has caused a decine in my personal western consumerism of said commodity of gastronomic aesthetics;) WR
