How would you sterilize a sponge to use instead of verm????????

Or...........am I.

Verm has many uses. You might clarify the use............

So someone can attempt to give you a proper answer.

Just PC the sponge (moist) & that will sterilize it.

If you have trouble finding it at garden supply centers, look in the local phone book under bulk insulation. Many companies use it for that purpose.
