I am not sure what these are but the stems looked hella cool, any guesses? maybe a psathyrella but I have never seen ones with stems like this.
I was hoping this is a chicken of the woods, please say it's so.... I want to eat this tonight. What is the best way to cook them?
Again thanks a ton guys. You rock!

Looks like it, but I just meant more like I don't know enough about them. I don't see why it's not. Though, I cannot really say for sure.

Thanks for the effort anyway man, you are a good dude jet li and one hell of a ninja also. If anyone knows if it is I would love to know because it looks very tasty and the area that I found it in doesn't have any eucalyptus grow in it.

I've seen my fair share of Laetiporus sulphureus and it's cousin laetiporus cincinnatus on the east coast and it looks like you have the former though I am not a TI.
My advice - don't over do it the first time around as a few people may have issues with allergies or combining them with alcohol etc. However I have no problem combining em with butter, olive oil, garlic, s&p till lightly browned. Enjoy G

How about Laetiporus conifericola as cincinnatus have white gills and these were yellow, it was also most likely growing from a conifer.

I'm only familiar with those in the east on hardwoods and I'm not sure visual differentiation is possible among the orange and yellow varieties. However it seems L. coniferacola may be more likely if you are in the west and it is on a conifer. M. Kuo provides some details at www.mushroomexpert.com/laetiporus_sulphureus.html
I think you will be enjoying these but do a quick bit of research just to be sure. I believe Tom Volk may also have something on his site about varieties and their edibility.

Thank you for your help, I am cooking a little bit of it now so here goes nothing. I can only hope for the best. Laetiporus conifericola is the best I can come up with after doing a little reading. If anyone thinks it is a bad idea for me to eat a little let me know now please because in 10 minutes it will be too late.

Don't know of any deadly lookalikes. Hope that helps. Read some recipes and try a few thing with small portions part of a bigger meal.

Well it tasted pretty good (a little woody nearest the stem) and neither my wife or I feel sick at all, so all and all it was a good find and I recommend trying them if the opportunity presents it's self.

Glad it was good man. I left east coast for a few days and look what I found in SF area. FWIW - lots of new vegetation to me - oaks with hollow egg sized appendages. G
