Probably a stupid idea - trich infection
    #14901925 - 08/10/11 03:10 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Trich infection on one of my cakes. I had another cake contam with trich yesterday and tossed the whole thing, but the infection on this one seemed small. I cut off the contaminated section and put the cake back in my terrarium.

Bad idea, right? Does cutting off the contaminated area not get rid of trich?

I couldn't bring myself to throw it out, it has so many cubes pinning that I wanted to see what would happen.  Tell me if I'm a moron or not.

Infection:

Back side of cut-off piece:

A weird pin that looks like cubensis but it has a blue tinge. o.O ?

Cutting off the green wont fix the cake. If its already got pins, it may successfully grow fruits. But you are going to want to remove that infected cake from your grow area. Preferably outside somewhere, otherwise you'll have those spores everywhere.

I ended up just throwing it out, the heads of the pins looked like they were being eaten or something.

I just wasn't sure if the trich would be able to spread if I cut off the green section

Good call. Trich myc is white too, until it goes to spore anyway. No way to tell where the infection ends.
