Oh, they're cheering in the streets, all right.
KARBALA, Iraq (CNN) -- A flood of exuberant Shiite Muslim pilgrims surged into the central Iraqi city of Karbala, reviving a religious tradition that was not allowed under Saddam Hussein's rule.
Religious leaders said the crowd could reach several million by the peak of the observance Wednesday.
Saddam, a member of the minority Sunni Muslim sect in Iraq, did not allow Shiites to walk to the Tomb of Hussein, a Muslim martyr who was killed more than 1,300 years ago. Imam Hussein was the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed.
The political fervor of the crowd intensified Tuesday as earlier chants of "No to America. No to Israel. No to the Devil" gave way to "Death to America. Death to Israel." http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/04/22/sprj.nilaw.karbala.pilgrims/index.html

-------------------- You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

It's simple, really. They want to rule themselves. They're glad Saddam's out, and now they want America out.

yeah - real similar to the headline that immediately followed the toppling of Saddams statue in Bagdhad something like ..."jubilant throngs of Iraqis cheering". I mean fuck, there were like 50 or 60 people out there & most of 'em were looters. I figure they were happy about the value for the bronze they were going to nick once that statue hit the ground.

shit, dancing in the streets? that is your perception of the iraqi condition? hmmmm, maybe you should start questioning your news source my friend, because I think that describing the Iraqi sentiment like that, is a bit....ooooh...inaccurate.

I think most of them were Iraqi exiles flown in the week before from Washington. There's photos around of guys flown in who "just happened" to be escorted past the US tanks so they could jump up and down and be filmed.
