Tubaria sp?
    #14811594 - 07/23/11 12:02 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

At my sub patch, I've been finding these small mushrooms which I keep picking thinking they are subs. I believe they may be a tubaria sp.
No pictures, but I will do my best to describe.

Growing on a grassy field with wood mulch scattered through. It does not grow very tall, I'd say 3cm maximum.

Round, orange cap which would not grow any bigger than 2cm.
Annulus is visible on the stem where the cap has broken away. The stem is mostly brown with a grey tint to it.
Gills are the same tan colour as young subs and do not appear to change colour with maturity.

PICS:

Comparison to subaeruginosa

What do you guys think? I can get some pictures tomorrow if needed.

Looks pretty similar to tubaria.

did u notice the stems to be very weak, flimsy, and hollow?

That picture is not what I've been finding. It's another Tubaria sp I found on google which looks close to the one I'm finding.

The stems are weak, but I'm not sure about hollow. I will get pictures tomorrow and check the stem.

First I thought it may have been G. marginata, but because it does not grow very big it led me to believe it must be something else.

EDIT:

They are very fragile, the cap usually separates from the stem when trying to pick them out of the ground.

yea man my second opinion would be some kinda Galerina as well. they can keep rather small as well i believe

my experience in the past with hunting bay area actives has shown me many of tubaria though.

From what i noticed they have very flimsy stems, that was one easily identifiable trait for me back in the day differentiating between Psilocybe Cyanescens and tubaria.

i think i am leaning closer to galerina though actually on this one

Also something to look for... upon reviewing some of my old pictures of tubaria.

it seems they hold a  consistent color throughout the entire body of the mushroom, and the stems if i am correct are not coarse or scaley, they are smooth and once again very fragile along with the cap

Oh crap...
I was really hoping they were not Galerina.

Will definitely get pictures tomorrow then. I'm going to have to be extra careful picking from this patch if they are galerina.

As I said, I won't have any pictures until tomorrow.

I just put in that one I found from google as it looks very similar.

I wasn't trying to imply that the mushroom pictured above is the same species as what I've been finding. I was just merely stating that it looks very similar.

QFT bruv!

gotta be careful indeed.

idk the stems always seemed to be a clear giveaway to me, especially once you have handled any psilocybe yourself

Yeah I can usually tell them apart by the stem, but some of the more mature subs I've been finding at this patch have a greyish/brownish stem almost exactly the same as this other species. But there's enough subs at this patch that I don't even hesitate to leave anything I'm not sure of.

I'd rather leave a sub thinking it was something else, than pick something else thinking it was a sub.

Do you know if any tubaria species are poisonous?

After looking at lots of pictures of G. marginata, I'm fairly sure that's what I have growing with my subs. I will still get pictures in the morning though.

I have some suspicions that I may have picked an unknown amount of these while collecting subs, then mixed them all into honey.

My first trip on this honey was good, until about 5 and a half hours into it. I got intense stomach cramps and lots of gas. In a matter of seconds I projectile vomited out the window until my stomach was empty. I had diarrhea for about 5 days after. Every other time I have dosed from this batch of honey (roughly 7 times, all same dosage) I only got minor stomach discomfort and diarrhea only the day after.

Luckily both batches of honey grew mould and I have thrown them away. Even though I lost over 100g of subs it feels good knowing  I'm not putting myself at risk anymore.

damn man that sounds kinda sketchy!

G. marginatas are known to carry the same amatoxins that are found in death caps!

best of luck!

cept maybe 4,5 and 6 those look more like galerinas

I think they are all the same species, just at different levels of maturity. The mushrooms in pics 4,5 and 6 were growing out in the open with no grass to shade them from the sun, I think that's why the caps appear lighter.

Thanks for your help.
So in your opinion they aren't G. marginata?

I checked out tubaria furfuracea, and I agree they do look very similar, if not the same.

The season here is coming to an end, but there are still mushrooms about.

Don't think it's Galerina either.  And if it is, it's not G. marginata.

Obviously don't consume them :/

That picture to me looks more like a Laccaria sp.
Maybe Laccaria laccarta.

Thanks for all your input.

That's good then.

Don't worry I will not intentionally consume any.
