Nervous About Recent Noc...
    #14732501 - 07/07/11 05:59 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I didn't photo-log my first attempt. This time I will. Five rye berry jars each with one young pin pulled from a fruiting cake. Four were noc'd up with purchased MS syringes. Two different syringes of the same type were injected, two per jar...  This was on July 2nd...

What is up with that growth?

The growth is clearly from the inoculation points.  Just really whispy mycelium???

BTW; lost all 14 pint jars of my first grain attempt to white mold. It colonized the entire pint jar in about five days :frown:  Not 100% sure if it was the syringe. I must admit those jars from the first attempt were way too wet :frown:  These jars are much drier

Oh; one more thing. I did NOT shake the jars after introduction of MS nor pins.

I'm no expert but if those were my jars I'd call it cobweb.

That is definately mold in those jars. Mycelium would never stretch so far above the substrate and is white in color. Your growth is dull grey and its most likely cobweb.

send them an email telling them you saw NUMEROUS cobweb spores with your cubensis spores when viewing them through your microscope.

you are not satisfied.

You are suggesting he should lie to a store just because he got cobweb?
What makes you so sure it was the inoculant?
Hmm...this I do not agree with. I would much like to see
you explaining why the OP should harass a sponsor store
for something they may not have caused. Or am I reading
something wrong here?

Please also consider reflecting over trying different methods, creating you own needles etc. Storage temperatures, sterilization techniques etc. Before you blame anything else..just to be thorough..

Did you happen to keep a control jar that you sterilized in the same run, but that you did not inoculate? That would tell you with great likelihood is it was a contaminated syringe.

What makes you so sure its not the inoculant?

since the ''contaminant'' is only showing in the inoculation points

well how would you say to a sponsor that the syringe is bad with out sayong you are trying to grow psi mushrooms.

my advice to the OP is wait some more to be sure, try again and check sterile procedure, still showing contaminants? id do what Koolaid is saying .

good luck man

ktm, I appreciate your concern with jumping to conclusions and blaming things on a bad syringe. I truly do. I agree...

However; in this case, I truly believe it IS the case of a bad print that was used in the making of several of my syringes...  I had similar growth in BRF petri 1/2 pint jars I mad. I'm a noob and thought they were okay. The stock needles that came with the syringes are fucked on the end. So I used freshly sterilized good needs for the noc with the grain. Same type growth, growing from the liquid noc'd in both...  At the same time as the recent grain jars, I dropped pins into five grain jars: no (viewable contams in those jars that I actually opened the lids on).

Dude!  You are the first person I know to deliberately be culturing the cobweb mold.  Seems like a very pure culture.  I had no idea it did so well on rye.

Yeah it is off white and greyish... Totally Dactillum.(cobwebby)

Molds are super interesting.

you have to lie when asking for new spores.

and its most def the innoculant, per the pattern of the contaminant.

the sponsors are lying when they pretend we are using them for a microscope.

its just the game we have to play
