 I need some help trouble shooting why my media player won't play an AVI file

I just downloaded season 3 of Sons of Anarchy and it is in AVI format. I tried playing it through my windows media player, but got a message saying that the codec wasn't supported. Can anyone help me with this? This is beyond my limited computer knowledge and any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the message that I keep getting:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

Looks like your mediacentre doesn't play that particulair avi codec you got there. Covert it to a more regulair avi codec or try to download a different avi.

Just get GOM Player.
It will play almost everything you throw at it.

i see your problem, you are using mwp. try vlc, it plays everything.

no prob, while we are on the subject, while vlc is the best for vids (even on iphone through cydia), it kinda sucks for music, for that i suggest winamp or foobar.

Use VLC if you're efficient. Install the klite codec pack if you're brave.
