You will have a hard time getting invited to one of there religious ceremonies. It's a community practise, and you will be an outsider... a non-native. Plus, they eat poyote for a threshold, they sit up and talk in there native language and pray. If you're wanting to trip out, you'd be going to the wrong place.

I think every white boy drug-taker's dream is to be taken on a vision quest by an indigenous shaman, and it's not like they aren't aware of this. I'm sure you could go to south america and for a small fee there would be plenty of people willing to fullfil your fantasy and pretend to be a shaman

You can be a shaman here, South American Shamans just partake in ayahuasca a lot, they need it for all their practices, and can't do much without it. So go get some ayahuasca!

I've heard of alot of animosity from native americans to whites. I am not stabbing in the dark... It seems to be very hard to participate in native american peyote ceremonies. It is not as simple as going to an indian reservation, asking for a handful of poyote and that is that. Of course, having native american blood inside you will help out tremendously. But if you are white with blue eyes, you can expect some animosity.

rosewoodpete- Have you heard any other stories?

As far as the ayahuasca-using shamans in south america, I doubt they'd be very happy to accept you into there culture as fast, either.

If you become a member of the Native American Church of North America, you can grow, use, and sell (to other members) peyote for use in approved religious practices. And you don't even need to be native american to be a member.

Do you welcome anyone into these ceremonies? Or are there people you would consider outsiders? I'm just trying to understand.

you have to be able to prove that youre at least 1/4th native american to join the native american church, if i'm not mistaken.

For someone who's username means free from fault, or free from error your sure have been mistaken.
I never said anything about joining the native american church. All I've been saying is that they aren't going to let any cracker walk into one of there ceremonies and share a bowl of poyote liquid. The poyote ceremony is far to sacred and community based, as is my understanding, for that to be acceptable.

Your exactually right because i am 1/16th cherokee indian an thats not enough according to their laws. I did purchase some Peyote seeds from their church about 5 yrs ago an just never planted them. I tried to do a second purchase and i think they were suspicious an sent me a letter stating that it was illegal to sell Williamselli seeds. i really think they want others to experiance Peyote but are very much against anyone just wanting to get high for the fuck of it. The woman that sold me the seeds did tell me that they do make exceptions an would consider me if i was serious about becoming a member in their church..I just never followed up on it.

ACTUALLY, in oklahoma, you don't have to prove Native American background. You have to swear to membership in the church for it to be legal. But, as for the church accepting you into their community, that is another story. You have to know the right people and be patient with the process. Breaking through to these people takes time and lots of trust building.

I was wrong about the NAC, however, they are not the only peyote eating church in America. Here is a link to "a non-denominational All Race Peyotist Religion".

Quote:

The present political and social climate at this time, in this country is such that you may be arrested for your religious practice of Peyotism. The only states that have legal provisions regarding the bonafide religious use of Peyote by non-Indians are Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Oregon. In these states, the Church?s ?Declaration of Religious Belief? should protect an individual in possession of Peyote.
